Images and masthead sizing

  Is there a support page dealing with the basic use of images? Specifically, what is the recommended size for a masthead?

  Each theme found here which can only be used of WordPress.COM blogs http://wordpress.com/themes/ has a specific header size designed into the theme.

  My new site is being hosted at lunarpages.com and they are installing http://themegrill.com/themes/radiate/ which will not be done “for a few days.” While I wait, I want to design and fix the homepage masthead graphic and only need to know the best/correct size of the image I will be creating. Please help as can. While I’ve created and maintained dozens of excellent WP site in the past, this is my first time to personally build up a site from zero as I’ve always employed a credible Web master to do this. He is currently unavailable and I need to know all of this part of the technology anyway as I’m a fairly good designer and have adequate chops using Photoshop, etc. All I immediately need know is the size of the masthead/home page image and WPs recommended sizing for other images I might choose to use. If you know of a link that would provide this information, that would be great! Aloha from Honolulu. – Scott Foster

  Hi again. Ok. I located the suggested header image size “1500 pixels. Suggested height is 450 pixels” and cropped my masthead graphic accordingly to 1323 × 397 with this result. http://carolfukunagahnl.com/

  I did this several times with the same outcomes; the image is too large and auto crops the top of my graphic. I even recreated it to scale in Photoshop. AM I crazy or is this a glitch in the software v 1.0.3?

  This is the WordPress.COM support forum. You need to post to the WordPress.ORG support forum for help with your site because it is not hosted by WordPress.COM.

  WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and different http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

  My apologies. I went out on a limb with my boss to try wordpress vs Joomla and was not aware of the difference. I’ll try your suggestion next.
