Images appear as text links

    Am running WP 4.9.4. I cannot add a thumbnail or other image to my blog posts. The images appear in the “Add Image” dialogue, but when inserted into the post they all show up as text hyperlinks in both the edit and preview pages. My theme is shapely. I did not have this issue with previous versions of WP but cannot remember if I was able to insert correct images after upgrading and before this.

    Can you help me with this?
