images appear stalled

    Hello,

    A problem developed when I started trying to add a link button as a widget on my sidebar. The image for the button was created in photoshop and turned into a jpeg. I uploaded it to wordpress by going throgh “make a post,” then “upload” then “send to editor” just so I could grab the link information, then discard the post. I figured this was fine, because the image still showed up in my “uploads” section. Then I took the link for the image and put it in that “text 1” box under “widgets,” with the code for the website wrapped around it.

    <img src=”http://greaterdetroit.files.wordpress.com/2007/11/yvr-snapshot.jpg”>

    Not only did that not work, but now ALL of the images on my blog refuse to load.

    I went back through my uploaded images and noticed that a lot of them were ridiculously large (some were 1 and 2 MB). I deleted those with a plan to upload smaller versions.
    I just tried to do that with a 148 KB version of one of the images and it still doesn’t load. The box with the little thing in the left corner appears, but no image, and at the bottom of my browser it says “waiting for wordpress… to respond.”

    So now I have 2 problems: the original one, how do I add a link button as a widget? and the new one, why are all of my images refusing to load?

    Thanks

    That link takes me to a commercial blog. Are you trying to use images uploaded into a wordpress.com blog space for the commercial blog?

    I had the same problem as ellaella. I found the actual jpg here http://greaterdetriot.files.wordpress.com/2007/11/yvr-snapshot.jpg and I assume jennylx’s actual blog (not the one linked in her username, since that one sends me into a weird loop) is http://greaterdetriot.wordpress.com. However, I don’t see any images on that blog, only links to offsite pics (flicker)

    Hm, those links appear to not be working. Let’s try again:

    image – seems to have been deleted

    When I put in the http://greaterdetroit.files.wordpress.com/2007/11/yvr-shapshot.jpg I get a 404 file not found error. Check and make sure the files shows up in manage > uploads. If the file is there, then the code below should work for you. I always leave the “alt” and “title” stuff in there without anything between the quote marks since I’ve had instances, for whatever reason, where a link would not work without them.

    Actually the code above will just display the image. My bad. To post html code here, put the code between backticks (to the left of the #1 key on north american keyboards). Given the image URL above, and where the link took me, this code below should do what you want.

    By the way, this is a great resource from the FAQ’s for writing links: http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/07/01/how-to-write-links/

    Thanks for those replies. The commercial site (http://live365.com/stations/youthville) is the site I was trying to link to with the image. My blog is http://greaterdetroit.wordpress.com.

    Yes, the image is deleted now, because I went through and deleted all the images from my uploads with a plan to re-upload them, since none of them are loading.

    When I try to upload the new, smaller versions, the shape of the image appears, like I said, with the little thing in the left hand corner, but the image never appears. It almost seems like the problem is with the page getting stuck loading.
