Hi,
Two questions:
1. Were these hundreds of missing images uploaded to your WordPress.com site, or hosted elsewhere?2. If the missing images were uploaded to the site, did you delete them from the media library?
-
Hi
1) Yes, they were upload onto wordpress
2) And no, I didn’t delete anything, so at the moment I’m looking to recover these important images.. -
I have found affected images in the 2015 archives, in December and October posts. In each case I find that the image URL displays a blank page. In the latest Firefox, I found no associated error message. However, with the latest Google Chrome (version 54.0.2840.87 m) each of the missing image URLs I’ve checked gives a “404 — File not found” error message.
These results suggest that the images were deleted from the media library. You don’t have to delete them directly from posts or pages to obtain missing images with in 404 errors. Deletion of an image from the media library will result in its disappearance from a post or page where it was embedded.

If you haven’t deleted them from the media library, and still find them present there, I suggest that you add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attention.
