Images are too big
-
I cropped the size of the pictures on my computers. First I reduced the pixels. then I reduced the image by 50 percent. But everytime I try to upload them they reverse to their original HUGE format.
I have only two options: Full size and thumbnail. Full size shows the image in true full size, ignoring the fact that it was altered, and Thumbnail shows it as a too tiny, naturally.
I’m looking for the middle ground, but can’t seem to find it.Can someone help? I wasted a lot of time finding a program which reduces the picture size, and it’s really frustrating that I can’t upload the pictures like I want to.
Thanks.

the picture shouldn’t be the original format if you have shrunk them by half. what program are you using? i shrink my pictures in paint with no problems. i also save them in another name alongside the original.

Here’s what worked for me.
(1) Save the text in the post you have created using the visual text rich editor as a “Private” post;
(2) -> Options -> Users -> My Profile (remove the check mark from the box “Use the visual rich editor” when writing) -> Click “Update Options” to save the change;
(3) Rename the image on your computer that you have sized to be the size you want it to be on your blog;
(4) -> Manage -> Edit the “Private” post and now use the standard editor to upload the renamed image; “Browse” select the image and once it’s uploaded be sure to select “Full size” then click “send to Editor”;
(5) Save the post as a “Private” post again and view it – it should now be the correct so click “Publish”;
(6) -> Manage -> Uploads – locate the images you uploaded previously that were the wrong size after uploading and delete them;
(7) -> Options -> Users -> My Profile (check mark the box “Use the visual rich editor when writing”) -> Click Update Options to save.It worked for me so I’m expecting it will work for you too. Please let us know how things turn out.
Edit: I just saw sulz’s post and like her I use Microsoft Paint to pre-size all of my images before I upload them into my blog.

It worked! Thanks.
But do I have to do all this elaborate process whenever I want to upload a picture?!
I did use the Windows Paint but it didn’t help. It’s not that can’r resize the pictures, it that I couldn’t upload the resized pictures to the blog.

You’re welcome. I’m glad to hear you succeeded. The problem for you seems to be using the visual rich text rich editor for image uploading. The great thing about wordpress is you have the choice of using the standard editor. Once you catch onto memorizing the routine it doesn’t take much extra time at all. Perhaps drmike will provide some insight as to why this is happening when you use Tiny MCE tomorrow and if not, you can send in a feedback to Mark after the weekend.

Yeah, it seems that in order to upload the photos I just need to switch to the standard editor (even without going to Options, and I don’t even have to rename them), so it’s not too bad, I guess.
Thanks again, you really helped me solve this problem.

You’re right about that the process is really painless if you use the standard editor from the outset. I’m glad I could help. :)
