images as icons

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi there, thanks for the quick support with import.
Now the little problem is that all images/illustrations that i had on my previous blog are shown as icons. When I am editing the post – images displayed correctly, but on the main page they are icons again. should I paste all of them manually, or there are some options to do it?
    e.g. https://aizadatoma.wordpress.com/2015/01/30/to-do-list-2015/
    Thank you!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi!

It looks like you recently ran an import on your site from a self-hosted blog. Is that correct? Occasionally, the image URLs aren’t changed over to point to the image on your WordPress.com site so they’re left pointing to your self-hosted site which leads to a broken image.

For example, the first image on the post you mention has the following source URL:

    https://i0.wp.com/onthewall.kloop.kg/files/2015/01/tree-150x150.jpg

That URL is leading to a broken image. Normally, we import the images when you run the importer and then change all of the URLs to point to their WordPress.com version like this:

    https://aizadatoma.files.wordpress.com/2015/01/1.jpg?w=547

    A few follow-up questions:

    1. Are the images that are supposed to be in the post you mention actually in your Media Library here?

    https://aizadatoma.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php

    2. Is this the only post where the issue is happening?

    hi!
today I just downloaded almost all images from my previous blog to the media library, but nothing happenned. so,
    1. now all images are in my library.
    2. all post are with “broken” images. now I am trying to restore them one by one, but it takes a lot of time.

    Hi!

Before you go to all of the trouble replacing the images, let’s see if there’s any way we can help do this for you. I see there are some broken links here:

    To-Do-List — 2015

The first image (Tree) is pointing to this file:

Could you link me to where that photo currently exists in your Media Library? I’m looking for this specific URL for the image:

    http://d.pr/i/1iHg1

Thanks for the additional info, and I apologize that this happened! We’ll see what we can do to help clear this up.

    Hi,
here the url of the first image (tree) in medialibrary
    https://aizadatoma.files.wordpress.com/2015/04/tree.jpg
    I uploaded it again.

Thani you very much for your support!

    Hi @aizadatoma,

Just to clarify, that tree image at the URL below was not carried over in the import process?

The issue is the slug for the image. The original slug is “tree-150×150.jpg” in this URL:

We can fix up the images if the same image exists at

But, since the slug for the updated tree image is different, I’m afraid we cannot fix that automatically.

    A few additional questions:

    1. Are the original images in your Media Library or are you finding that you have to re-upload them?

    2. If you’re finding you need to re-upload them, can you try running the import again? I’m hoping that will bring over the missing images.

    Dear Jeremey,
    Thank you!
    1. All images I just uploaded. There were no images in media library after import. I uploaded them again.
    2. Actually I’m afraid of rerun the import again, because last time I had to wait a lot, then repeat the process. There are no other way?

Thanks for clarifying! When you re-upload the images, there’s a strong change that the image slug gets changed. For example, in your post, the image is referenced as this:

    https://i0.wp.com/onthewall.kloop.kg/files/2015/01/tree-150x150.jpg

The slug for that image is “tree-150×150.jpg.” There’s also the date component. In order for us to help change the image URLs over, the exact same image would have to exist at the following URL:

    http://aizadatoma.files.wordpress.com/2015/01/tree-150x150.jpg

The only way to get that to happen would be to import the media files.

The two options to get this fixed would be the following:

    1. You could try the import again. It should bring over the media files. So, the file would exist at the following URL:

    2. You could manually replace all of the images.

I’m sorry we don’t have more options!
