Images auto-embedding in comments
-
Is this new? Pasting the URL of an image into a comment is all of a sudden embedding that image, instead of it appearing as a link.

Not complaining, just wondering if this is a new feature, or whether it’s some sort of bug.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Nor me. I notice in the ever-growing thread about the new editor that a lot of folk seem to be having trouble with image galleries and the like. I suppose this could be related somehow, if there’s a CSS bug related to the img tag.

CSS affects only the appearance of a blog / site; it does not affect how the software of this platform or the functions of a theme. CSS is for formatting only: colors, fonts, formatting, how tables are rendered, captions are displayed, spacing between paragraphs, how galleries look, and all other cosmetic things.
The theme wranglers and code poets behind the scenes can make changes that affect how things work. The new editor is an example of those sorts of changes. The lost scroll bar issue is another example.

Aye, but if CSS a rule intended to embed pictures in a post has been applied to all URLs ending in, for instance, the .jpg extension instead of just when they’re contained in the main content div, could that not have this effect?

I don’t know—I am a volunteer. Comments have their own code. Put a modlook tag on this topic and subscribe so you get a response from STAFF.

That is definitely a new feature, and intentional. All URL-based embeds work in comments now, like images, videos, etc.
Sorry for the late response!
