Images being displayed as 'banner' sized in Reader

Can anyone advise here please, when I go to the WordPress reader (where you can see yours and other people’s posts) I have noticed more and more of my posts seem to keep having the featured image displayed on the reader in full banner size. However, there some of my posts where the reader displays an image in a smaller size. I
Is there anything in particular that dictates how WordPress displays your image in the reader?

What is the name of the theme in use?
Are you aware that images appear in different sizes when displayed on different devices?
Please provide links to the posts in question ie. the ones that demonstrate the different sizing of featured images. -
May I please add that if the images are not the exact size required by the theme for featured images in that theme then that is the issue.

I am using the free version of WordPress and use no plug ins.
When I go to my ‘reader’ on WordPress, some of my featured images are appearing as large banner type images. As an example, there is a James Bond Skyfall blog post that I did from today that on my desktop shows as a large banner image and a Shawshank Redemption post also showing with a large banner image on the reader.
Yet some of my other posts display the featured imaged on the ‘reader’ with a smaller photo. My post from the day before ‘Star Wars – a few more scenes I would like to see’ displayed a significantly smaller image on the reader.
I am wondering if this has anything to do with the amount of text one has on their blog, because the ones appearing with bigger banner images on the reader are typically very short blog posts, where it is just a featured image and a comedy caption.
Ideally I would not like an entire banner image, but a smaller image and also of my text from my blog (like in this case the comedy captions.)

Interestingly, I have located one of my posts in the reader where it does show the image smaller and also displays some of the text from the blog:
I wonder if it has anything to do with the dimensions of the original image that is being used.
This is one of the images that is showing as full banner size in the reader
The image is 701 pixels in width by 332 pixels in height:
And by comparison, this is one of the images that is showing in the reader as a smaller image and in the reader some of the text from the post also shows.
The image is 642 pixels in width by 387 pixels in height:
Both of these blog posts use a single featured image and both have a very short comedy caption. Perhaps the Skyfall post (the first link) shows as banner sized in the reader because the width of the image is bigger?
