Images Breaking

The images on my blog have been breaking all month – I originally thought it was my media storage but I’ve done a solid few month clear out and it’s still happening. I’ve had many images in my sidebar disappear, and now what I’m using as a profile picture. A couple of weeks ago I lost my entire background. Having to reupload these is incredibly tedious, can anyone work out what’s happening so I can fix it?

Oh no! If you delete images from the media library, the site won’t be able to display them. I’m guessing the ones you deleted are the very ones that are now broken on the site? Or did you have any troubles before you started deleting them? Let’s see if we can get to the bottom of that. If you can also let us know when you started deleting images that you might need, that would help.
If your media library is full, I highly recommend upgrading, but you could also edit a post, delete its images (from the post and the media library) then replace the images with smaller versions. It’s pretty time consuming, so I do recommend an upgrade instead if possible.

This hasn’t fixed my issue and misreads my post entirely with intent to force me to pay money, which would not fix my issue either. More than 24 hours for a single response and this is what I get. And you want me to pay? Wild.

Hi @veebookishbooks, are the images that are broken the same ones you removed from the media library?

And if I try to open the missing image (outlined in a frame-ish thing but without a broken image icon) in a new browser tab, it takes a very, very long time and ends in a 404 not found error.
Can you search and confirm that img_20200224_140220_505-1.jpg (uploaded June 2020) exists in your Media Library? Thanks.

Hey! So that image was likely deleted by myself and isn’t an issue, however on the sidebar where it has my intro, above that there SHOULD be a profile picture, which has gone.

^This picture, which is no longer showing as a broken image, but now has just completely vanished off my sidebar. You can see that it exists and is broken here:

Thanks for that screenshot of your widget dashboard. Again, can you confirm that the image is in your Media Library? You can search for it by using the full file name.
(When I try to access the image directly via Firefox’s Inspection tool, it comes up as a 404 as well.)

Just to back up for a moment, I did see the image in the media attachment page you linked to in your reply. https://undervmountain.wordpress.com/344801622_1306338563286518_252194555248782581_n/ However, the first time I clicked on it to open it directly, it again ended in a 404 error. The second time I clicked, the image opened.
Thank you for the additional information. We’ll now need to wait for Staff to return to this thread to assist and weekends tend to be slower. Thanks for your patience.

Can you tell me how you are getting that URL? That is not exactly the way that media URLs on WordPress.com are structured. This is the correct URL structure for media on your site.
You will see that your profile image is found at that URL, but I’m less sure how you had an incorrect URL in the first place. Can you walk us through how you added your image to that widget? Are there other specific images on your site (that we can take a look at) that are broken currently but NOT images that you have deleted?
