images disappearing

I saw previous topics where new and previously uploaded images started disappearing. Support said to provide the URL and let staff know. Tonight’s images uploaded fine, but when I went into media library some sporadically disappeared (just the red x was left, and would not respond to Show Picture). I uploaded these anew, only to have it recur. I did it a third time, deleting the earlier ones, and old pictures started to disappear. Last night I was unable to edit the publishing date (after everything working fine), but today that was okay. Something is up.

When you re-upload images, you can cause a cumulative problem: always, always change the name of a file before re-uploading it, otherwise there’s a problem.
Otherwise, all I can advise is that these problems are usually temporary issues and that re-uploading an image that’s previously shown should never be necessary. It’s either a problem on the internet between you and the image server or it’s some datacentre synching problem. Either way that usually clears up very soon and isn’t visible to the majority of your blog readers.

The problem still exists. I jusgt deleted (again) all the latest images to upload again. Before I even had the chance to upload them, when I went into Media Library, previous ones that had been fine are now gone.
My blog is a private family blog with 4 readers. Even if they can see the photos (which they cannot – I tested), I am unable to access them myself, when it looks as if they loaded into the Media Library fine. Then they disappear before my eyes (sporadically; when I delete the lost images, earlier ones start to disappear).
I have IE 8. Do you recommend permanently shifting to another browser that better supports WP?
I agree these are usually temporary problems. I’m confused, as my computer is 3 months new, fast, lots of memory, pretty clean, etc.
I didn’t know about re-numbering images, although this has not previously occurred. Thank you for letting me know. I did notice WP added a 1 to images re-loaded, so thought that took care ofi it. I wasn’t sure if it was clear that the problem existed before I uploaded the same-named photos.
What’s a datacentre synching problem?
Any other advice you might have would be greatly appreciated.

I doubt that it’s a browser problem, but do a virus check just to make sure. Have you checked the images to see if they have any malware?

I’m not up on terms like malware. Within a few hours, it seemed fine. I just checked again, and all seems okay. Maybe I didn’t wait long enough. No viruses. Thanks!
