images disappearing from old blog posts

Hello, I am a fairly new user of WordPress and noticed that the photos I had in my older blogs have disappeared and now there is just a box with a number instead. When I click on the box, nothing happens. What is going on? would all these problems go away if I paid for my blog??

Is there any chance you decided to “tidy” your Media Library?
In this post https://farmhousequiltsblog.wordpress.com/2016/01/ I’m getting 404 Not Found Errors on images such as this one:
https://farmhousequiltsblog.files.wordpress.com/2016/01/0032.jpgWhen you delete images from the Media Library, they also disappear from whatever post or page they were used in.
If that wasn’t it, please come back here and add the MODLOOK tag to the Tags section of the forum thread sidebar to receive Staff assistance.
