Hi there. Exactly where are you trying to place the image? Are you trying to use the drag-and-drop method? If so, what might be going wrong is that your image settings (specifically alignment and size) is on a default different than what you want.
Please try using the Add Media button instead, which will allow you to change the settings on an image-by-image basis. Click Add Media, and then Upload Files to add the file to your library. Then follow the rest of the steps here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/images/adding-images-to-posts-or-pages/#insert-an-imagefrom-your-media-library
I’ve found that trying to place an image in the middle of a paragraph doesn’t work. That’s because of the way the text wraps around an image.
For best results, place your cursor either before the first word or after the last word of a paragraph, if you want the text to appear next to the image, or place the image on its own line if you want it to appear without text. Also check in the pop-up window you use to insert images that you have your size and alignment settings (left, right, center) the way you want them.
If none of this addresses your problem, please let us know and please provide a bit more information on exactly what you want to do. A link to a post showing the incorrectly positioned image will also help.
