Images from last two posts not showing on phones

  • Unknown's avatar

My sister-in-law messaged me this morning to say that she can’t see the images on my last two posts. I checked on my phone & all I see are the Flickr links on the last two posts. However, before that you can see images. I didn’t do anything different when blogging. Why are all the other blog posts showing pictures, but not the last two?

What is the URL of your site?

I saw on another post that if you change from https:// to http:// then it would work & sure enough it did, but does that mean every time I paste in the Flickr embed code, I have to manually erase that “s”???

I saw somewhere that if you use http:// instead of https:// then it should work, so I tried it & it does. However, this makes me wonder if every time I paste the Flickr embed code, I have to manually erase an “s”.

Sorry for the double post! I thought the first didn’t show up!

  • Hi there!

I had a look at your site on my mobile, and it looks like all of the images are loading fine on my end. Have you changed the embed URLs, or do you still see this on your end? If so, could you share a screenshot of what you see?

You can use an online tool for that (such as https://snipboard.io/) and paste the link into your reply.

Hi! Thanks for replying! I ended up deleting an “s” from “https://” to change it to “http://”. This seemed to work, but that gets clunky when uploading a large batch of pictures. I’m now curious if I have to manually change every Flickr “embed link”.

Flickr should have https URLs by default, which tells me something else might be going on here.

Can you walk us through your process of embedding those links and where you’re getting your links?

On Flickr’s support documentation, they show https URLs for embedding as well.

Once we have that information, we’ll take a closer look. Thanks!

    1. I choose the “embed” option on WordPress.
    2. From Flickr, I choose the “share” button on the bottom right hand side of the page on the picture I want
    3. A box pops up, it is set to “share” with a link underneath. I copy & paste that link into the “embed” box on WordPress.
    4. I have tried using the “embed” link from Flickr in the “embed” box on WordPress, but it won’t post.

** This share link works great & the photos show up when you look at the blog from a computer or a tablet. It’s only when someone tries to look at the blog from their phone.

  • Hi, could you tell us more about this?

** This share link works great & the photos show up when you look at the blog from a computer or a tablet. It’s only when someone tries to look at the blog from their phone.

I tried embedding Flickr images the normal way, just by pasting the regular link on its own line in a post. That automatically converts to an embed. I did not change the links to http.

I can view the images on desktop, mobile, and AMP. Could you send a link to a post that has broken images, so we can see what you’re seeing? Also, what kind of mobile devices are giving you trouble?

    What I meant by :

** This share link works great & the photos show up when you look at the blog from a computer or a tablet. It’s only when someone tries to look at the blog from their phone.

is that this Flickr link is working perfectly as long as someone views the blog from a computer, laptop, or tablet. The pictures are there & everything is ‘as it should be’. However, before I did the manual changes of “https://” to “http://” on the last two blog posts, you could see the pictures on a computer, but not on a phone. However, all the pictures in all the previous blog posts were still there. It’s like something has changed in the last month either with Flickr or with WordPress.

I did a “test” blog post, following the steps above and again, the pictures are viewable on the computer, but not on a phone.

  • Hmm, I see that now. Your site seems to be using an older mobile theme that’s been retired for sometime, because your site’s theme has also been retired for quite a while and does not have a mobile view. Did this issue just start for you?

Would you be willing to disable the old mobile view and just have a desktop version of the site on mobile, or would you also be willing to update your theme as well so it has its own built-in mobile layout?

It literally just started being a problem. Posts that I made in March work fine on mobile views, but posts in April all of a sudden were not working. I’m fine switching to a new theme. Is there a way to ensure that the theme I’m picking will accommodate a mobile view? Also, will former blog posts stay put?

  • @micahandheather, all of the newer themes support mobile views, and none of them will get rid of your blog posts, though they may display them differently. And some themes will create a front page layout that you may opt to disable.

Since this issue is new, though, and the theme hasn’t been changed recently, I’m going to see if we can find a way to just disable this mobile view to confirm whether that is indeed the issue. I might need a little help from another team that won’t be here til Monday, though. Can you go ahead and use the http link for now, until then?

I’m open to changing to a different theme. I do want my blog to be viewable from a phone, so having that as an option is important.

I’ll wait to hear back about whether it’s possible to disable the mobile view to fix the issue & if that doesn’t solve it, I can just switch to a different theme.

Thanks so much for your help!!

  • Hi Folks –

Try turning the mobile option off at: https://micahandheather.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php?page=mobile-options

Write back if that does not work. Thanks!

  • Unknown's avatar

If I turn off the mobile option does that mean that pictures will OR won’t work on people’s phones?

The pictures will work regardless of whether or not the mobile option is enabled. It was originally developed for themes that were not mobile friendly. Since all our themes are responsive now – meaning they’ll look great for any device viewing the site, that’s why we deprecated that mobile only theme.

    I hope that clarifies things!

That seems to have solved the problem! Thanks everyone for your help!!
