Images in a text widget

  Hello and thanks up front. I have been trying to create a text widget that will include an image, and I cannot get the image to load in. I have followed the instructions in the FAQ, made the changes and saved them, and yet when I return to check the text box, it is empty. I understand I cannot use javascript in the text boxes, but why won’t something like this — http://metafootnotes.wordpress.com/files/2008/05/middlesex.jpg — show up? I’m working on a Mac, if that makes any difference.

  I generally format my text widgets as if they were posts. Then, when they look the way I want, I click to HTML editor and copy the code, and that is what I paste into the text widget.
