Images In Bueno Theme

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi guys,

    I’ve just changed to the Bueno theme and really like it but I’ve got a major problem with my reviews section – my idea when creating the sectino was to use images to show which review was which instead of just a long, boring list. So I needed to make all the images the same size so they wouldn’t go everywhere and look terrible. On my old theme, Cutline, it worked perfectly.

    Now I find that my albums are okay but my film pictures are awful – scattered all over the place and the original sizes of the images rather than the 110×100 pixels that they are really meant to be.

    I’ve clicked on the image editor of each one and according to it, the images are 110×100 but anyone who looks at the page knows different. I’m at a loss as to what to do because I’ve re-updated each of the images and that doesn’t work, I’ve deleted each of the images and inserted and resized them again and that didn’t work…. What do I do?! Please sort this out wordpress because it’s really annoying!!!

    P.S. I’m aware that I’ve posted this is Themes too but wasn’t sure which bit would give me the best support. Thanks!

    We are volunteers here in these forums, your fellow bloggers. If you want staff support, then you should contact them directly: http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

    Can you provide a link to one or two of the pictures you are having trouble with so we can take a look at the code? http:// etc

    Sorry, I meant a link to a post with one or two pictures where they are a problem.
    Need coffee…

    No that’s okay it was my mistake:

    Reviews

    this is the only page where it’s a problem which is why it’s so baffling – sorry I can’t give you another link!

    Ok, I’m baffled. One of your images was set to alignleft rather than alignnone, but fixing that did not help.
    I think that for some reason, Bueno does not like for you to change the width-height ratio of your images. It seems to automatically “correct” them for you.
    For example, the blind side image has a ratio of 100 to 65 (original size: 504 to 327)
    I can’t think of a way to over-ride the Bueno code to make your images artificially all 100 to 110.

    Contact staff and include this thread…
    maybe this is a bug, or maybe it’s a feature to prevent image distortion.

    Hmm okay – the funny thing is that when I added the ones for the albums, they seemed to adjust really well apart from a barely noticeable pixel here and there…. I’ll contact the main guys.

    Thanks for your time though, you volunteers do some great work here!

    Very odd. Could be I missed something.
    Post back here when you get an answer: I am curious.

    Tess isn’t baffled, Tess is right: Bueno doesn’t allow you to change the aspect ratio. And, in my opinion, distorting the images to make them seem uniform isn’t a good idea anyway: if you want uniform thumbnails, upload uniform images.

  • Unknown's avatar

    I am baffled that you can’t over-ride the ratio. Is this the only theme that does this?

    Makes sense to make sure the images are properly displayed, but there are rare times, such as this case when a distorted imgage is ok. I think she is using the images just as a graphic to break up the text rather than as pictures.

    @Tess: I don’t know if it’s the only theme – maybe.

    She’s using the images as a list of links to other pages. But she wants both original logos and uniform appearance; that to me isn’t reasonable. Anyway, I’ll see if I can find a way to override the ratio restriction.

    Possible this way:
    <img style="width:110px;height:100px;" src="IMAGE URL HERE" />

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yes. I should have thought of that!

    No it’s not logical, but you can see something similar on my site sometimes when I use an image that is too tiny to see, but just to break up the text.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey, was reading your stuff about how my page isn’t logical and I guess it is a bit odd but I wanted it to be different and this was the way of how I thought that could be….
    I didn’t want just a uniform list of things, but I can see how you’d think this would be a bit daft given the html and stuff.
    I’ll use the code

    @scg: I didn’t say your page isn’t logical, I said I don’t find distorting images logical. But as you see, if I find the solution to a problem, I won’t hide it because I disagree with the intention: it’s your blog, not mine!

  • Unknown's avatar

    It’s okay I sorted it, I decided to have just the albums as the images because they work better (they’re a much mre uniform size because of the nature of CDs) and I’m just using a list for the films now. I hope I don’t have any problems with that in the future but it should be okay, I haven’t bumped into any problems doing it that way so far.

    Thanks for all your help anyway.

    @scarletsculturegarden

    It was I who brought in “logical” but I meant in most cases it is not logical to distort an image. If you are using an image as a picture representing an object or scene, then it is not logical to distort it.

    I thought what you were doing was fine—I often use images as graphics, not necessarily meant to be looked at as pictures.

    I did not think your page odd or daft: it looked good to me!

    I’m sorry that my comment sounded like criticism. I regret not seeing your response sooner.

    Tess
