Images in Gallery not clickable?
-
I am new to WordPress so please forgive me. I am using Windows 10 and Chrome. Everything is updated.
I wanted to put up a series of images, and I understand that it needs to be in a “Gallery.” So I created a gallery and uploaded the images in order, and gave them explanatory names (not knowing how to caption).
But on the website view they appear as static tiles, and can’t be clicked to see the whole image, and the name can’t be seen. I searched the Forum and found a discussion of this problem in 2019, but at the end everyone agreed that the problem had been fixed. I can’t find any newer information.

Also, when I click Media Library, shouldn’t it show the Gallery? It’s only showing all the individual images I ever uploaded.
The Gallery I created appears to be uneditable. In fact when I was loading in the images, there wasn’t a pencil or paintbrush to open up any edit tools. Is there a way to edit images, apart from moving or cropping them?

Hello, you can refer to the following screenshot to add captions for your gallery images.

The Media Library is a repository of all media files on your entire website. The Gallery block is just for you to build a gallery block on your website. The gallery block itself will only be saved on pages/posts and it will not be stored in the Media Library.
You can edit images from the gallery block without editing the main source of the image. It just adds some extra layers to that image with extra shadows and highlights. You can play around with that.

To make your gallery clickable, you need to enable tiled galleries and image gallery carousels on your WordPress Dashboard under the settings -> media.

Then, you can start playing around with the tiled gallery block. Your gallery will be clickable and show a lightbox with a slider.

I finally got some time to work on this. I’m finding that I don’t have an Image Gallery Carousel under Settings > Media. There is only an option for Image Sizes. Maybe there’s something else I need to do?

I ran into a problem when I went looking for Settings>Media>Gallery–All I see under Media Settings is size adjustment. No Gallery Carousel.

OOOOOH I see, I need to install a plug in. Thank you for your patience, this is all brand new to me

@fmgcf36c7f70ae2 If you are using a free account you won’t have access to plugins. If this is the case, you might try switching to a different theme that supports the Gallery Carousel.

@fmgcf36c7f70ae2 if you are referring to your site, http://www.frederica.com it is using the open source WP software and looks to be hosted at Amazon. These forums you’ve posted to assist sites hosted here on WordPress.com, the hosting provider. You can learn more about this at https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/#are-wordpress-org-and-wordpress-com-the-same-thing
The reason you don’t see the Gallery Carousel option in Settings>Media is because it requires the Jetpack plugin to be installed and enabled.
For help with the WordPress software itself, you’ll want to head over to the support forums on WordPress.ORG https://wordpress.org/support/forums/ If you don’t have an account there, you can create one at this link https://login.wordpress.org/register
