Images in post are blurry and look worse than original uploaded pic

The images in the post; https://blog.universal-mechanism.org/2017/07/11/john-tracy-clinic-my-deaf-life/
Look blurry and the colour is wrong. Somehow WordPress reduced the file size to the point that fine detail is no longer visible. Take for example the first photo, the one that is a class photo. That photo shows a wire coming out of every kids ear. The original photo on my hard drive and Google Photos show the wire, but the WordPress version you can’t see the wire.
Ideally the WordPress software would make the photos embedded in the post link to a full size one. As of now, I see no way of giving visitors access to an original quality version.
I’ve included a Google Photos link to the original pic. Note that the wires are clearly visible.
https://goo.gl/photos/UqaFMQXWWWBCKHBN6The other photo of the baseball field is blurred to the point of destruction. The only way that my visitors know that there’s a baseball game going on is the fact that I told them that. In the original photo it’s clearly a ball game going on.
How do I setup WordPress to not reduce file size or barring that, how do I make the pics clickable to an original file version?
I created that post using the WordPress software app for Windows and Ubuntu Linux. Created in Windows and later edited on Ubuntu. Both Windows and Ubuntu using the desktop app. I went through all my settings and can’t see where to fix this. I would like to fix the post and all future post.
I like the idea of a reduced file version that can be clicked for an view of the original. Thank you.

This post will explain some of the reasons images don’t look as good in a post as they do full-sized: http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2008/05/03/how-good-is-wordpress-at-resizing-and-resampling-your-images/
If that’s not helpful then you can type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff follow-up. The blog post does shed some light on the image quality issue. Is there an wish list on this in the bug reports for WordPress? How would I go about telling the developers that I think it’s a good idea that when we make a blog post with embedded images, that clicking on the reduced size image would automatically take you to an original version of the image.
I’m pretty sure that someone else has already thought of this and I’d rather not make a pointless bug report. Is there some way I can add my voice to this idea. I’d be very surprised if no one had already thought of this. I will type modlook into the tags sidebar and staff should know of an bug report against the WordPress software running on wordpress.com and what you can download from the .org site.

Hello, it looks like the images in that specific post have been scanned from printed images. Several that I looked at in a separate browser window are not entirely crisp or clear even at full size:

https://test11119v.files.wordpress.com/2017/07/5-scan0005.jpg
https://test11119v.files.wordpress.com/2017/07/6-scan0006.jpgSee if your scanner has settings or specific instructions on scanning for web display. You might want to include Noise/Grain Reduction and Unsharp Mask in the process to see if you get better results.
When you upload your images to your site, consider that with your specific theme they are being resized to 640 pixels wide. So your uploaded images should be around that size.

Hi there,
Ideally the WordPress software would make the photos embedded in the post link to a full size one. As of now, I see no way of giving visitors access to an original quality version.
We already do this, but not everyone wants their images clickable so images are not linked by default. You need to add the link to the image file when you embed an image.
1) Insert image into post
2) Select inserted image
3) Click Link icon in editor toolbar. It will already be populated with the direct link to the image file.
4) Add link and update post.
How do I setup WordPress to not reduce file size
You can’t. Both your theme and most standard computer screens can only show images up to a certain size. Loading images any bigger than that is a waste of bandwidth and causes your site to take longer to load. Our content distribution network automatically serves images at the optimal size for your theme to make sure your site loads as fast as possible, and don’t eat up the bandwidth of your site visitors by loading resources that are bigger than they can view in any case.
The only way to display an image at the full size at which you uploaded is to link to the image file as I explained above.

That explains it. Thank you. I’ll be sure to edit my photos in an editor first before uploading. It’s true they were grainy to begin with, but WordPress made them worse.
Now that I that I can insert a link to an higher quality image I will. I’ll probably only do that for photos that need it. I totally get why now, wht the blog resizes the image.
Thank you. Please mark as solved.

Keep in mind that the bigger resolution image you use, the more storage space it will also use in your library, so do try to only use high-res images where it’s really needed. For the most part, resize your images to the size they will actually display to conserve your storage space over time. There are also apps you can use to reduce file size without affecting quality or the image itself to help save on storage space and improve loading times of your images.

I see, ok. Thank you for the advice @kokkieh
Yes, I do use good software on Linux called Gthumb for photo manipulation. I am using Picasa on Windows. I will resize photos for WordPress to make blog load faster and save on space and simply link to Google photos location using insert link. I don’t really care for most photos if people see only low res version. This is good to know because I have many nice photos which look good in high res.
Thank you to everybody who replied. It is clear now how to make blog load fast with photos and save space and link to high res version. Thank you.
