images in wordpress posts

I’m trying to add an image to a new post but I always end up with 2 photos! I’ve added the image as a block and there is no feature image. I tried deleting the photo and adding it as the feature but that didn’t work either.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

I understand how confusing it must be to see the same photo showing up twice when you’re trying to create a post. Let’s take a closer look together.

Sometimes, depending on the theme you’re using, the featured image is automatically displayed at the top of the post. If you’ve also added that same photo as an image block inside the content, it could result in the duplicate you’re seeing.

To help narrow this down, could you please:

    • Share a link to one of the posts where this happens so we can take a closer look.
    • Confirm whether the duplicate photo shows up in the editor itself, or only when you view the post live.
    • Share screenshots of what you’re seeing — here’s a quick guide on how to take and share them: https://wordpress.com/support/make-a-screenshot/
    • Let us know when this started happening — for example, did it work differently before?

With that info, we’ll be able to better understand what’s going on and guide you to a fix.

I look forward to your reply so I can help you further.

So I tried another theme and the duplicate problem disappeared. Then I tried to go back to my original theme (Duotone) but couldn’t find it! Is it no longer supported? Now all my old posts look awful and I really don’t want to have to revise them all! Argh! Help!

    Hi,

    Thanks for the update.

I can see that there is no duplicate issue with the current theme. Also, the Duotone theme is retired.

A retired theme will no longer receive updates with new features. While a retired theme should continue functioning on your site, we cannot guarantee it will always work well with the ever-evolving WordPress software. Retired themes are no longer supported or available for installation once removed from a site.

The good thing is that the new block themes make it easier to make changes across your site. We can either look for a theme similar to the Duotone layout or adjust the general blog and post template on the current theme, and these changes will be automatically applied to all your posts without having to edit them one by one.

You can learn more about the changes from a classic theme to a block theme here: Switch from a Classic Theme to a Block Theme

As for the current post layout, could you tell me how you would like them to be displayed? Any specific appearance? Block themes allow you to change almost everything without the need to use code.

Here are other guides that you might find helpful:
    Use the Site Editor
    Templates

I can help you get your posts to look the way you want in your current theme or look for another theme similar to Duotone.

Let me know how you would like to proceed.

Hello again. Sorry to be so slow getting back to you. Yes, I need some help! Could you help me find something similar to Duotone, something colourful? Need help too with changes across the site? Thanks in advance. Cheers, Anne

    Hi there,

No worries! Yes, here are some blog-type themes you can check available on your current plan: https://wordpress.com/themes/free/filter/subject:blog/

As for the changes you need to make across your site, could you tell me more about it? Is it setting up your blogs, appearance, or something else?
