  for each blog post I would like a different image displayed above but when I change one it seems to change the other as well?

  Hi! Depending on what theme you are using, I could suggest making use of the ‘featured image’ function for your blog posts:
  https://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/

  Many themes will show the featured post at the top of the page, though it somewhat depends on the theme whether the featured image is shown in place of the regular header, or in addition to the header.
