Images sizes always small

  No matter what size image file I load into Media, the maximum size is very small on the post. I use theme Twenty Twelve. FYI I imported the blog from a university WordPress program, where the theme was named differently, but appeared to be the same. The problem is occurring in new posts, however, not formatting changes in old posts after import.
