Images still pointing to old blog after migration

I have just finished importing my blog from self hosted to wordpress.com, but in my posts and pages most images are pointing to the old, self-hosted blog. Some images are not even in the media library.
My self-hosted blog is still online. I want to move the domain name to the wordpress.com blog, but only when all the images are working. I can’t possibly edit all the blog posts and re-upload all the images.
Please help.

Hi @ingeborghawighorst, sure. I’m guessing the host timed out on some images, but we’ll see if we can pull them through.
Be sure to get a full backup as well before getting rid of the site at the old host.

Actually it looks like they’re done now. Just one caveat: we weren’t able to pull in the file types in these posts, so you’ll want to fix those.

How can I migrate the site from the self-hosted site to wordpress.com with all links and all images pointing to the wordpress.com site and all pages and posts like they appear on the self-hosted site????

I created another site and ran the import again. This time the results look much better. There’s the odd link still pointing to the old blog, but I can handle that. Case closed.

Hi @ingeborghawighorst, hmmm. That’s odd; we had it fixed her at one point. Perhaps we crossed wires somewhere in troubleshooting. I’m glad you’ve worked it out though.
Please do make sure your media library is all in place on the new site. We do sometimes see cases where hosts will time out during import and not all of the images come through. You should have the same number in the media library on the new site that you had on the old site.
