images too big as large, too small as medium, trouble w/mountain icon
-
hello,
my images on my latest blog post need to be bigger in order to help people see them. however if if pick ‘large’ from the ‘add image’ options, it’s too big for my page and gets cut off. if i pick ‘medium’ its too small to see the detail.
i tried to find information about auto adjusting the images to a size that works for my blog and can’t figure it out.
so then i tried to figure out a way to post thumbnails which my readers can click on and it will open up in a new window, in the proper size. every article i look at says that this has to do with clicking on the image, then clicking on the mountain icon that shows up and then going to ‘advanced’ settings.
nothing happens when i click my mountain icon! it just goes back to the same screen and i don’t see anything called ‘advanced settings’!
please help. i am ready to chuck computer out a window.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

After you click on the mountain icon, up at the top of the window that pops up, there will be a link or tab that says “Advanced Settings”. Click on it.
Also, to resize your image, click on it wile it’s in the post editor. White squares will appear in the corners – you can use these via clicking and dragging to resize the image.
-
You can set the maximum size of images by going to Settings —> Media —> set maximum height and maximum width. Save.

there is no window that pops up when i click the mountain icon and no link to advanced settings.
there is also no little white corners on the edge of my image.
possible something is wrong with my account?

1. If the mountain icon won’t work, then the images you have already inserted can be edited by switching the post editor to html:
a. Change their size by deleting the height indications from the image code and changing the width number. For the theme you’re using, maximum width is 434.
b. Make them link to the full-size originals in a new window by enclosing the image code in a link code:
<a href="IMAGE_URL_HERE" target="_blank">COMPLETE_IMAGE_CODE_HERE</a>2. For future posts:
a. As Tess suggested, go to Settings>Media and set desired width numbers for the Large, Medium and Thumbnail options – with zero for heights. (Remember that the width for the Large option should be no more than 434.)
b. To make the images link to the full-size originals, click “File URL” after uploading and before inserting a new image. You’ll only have to do this once: the uploader will then remember your preference.
3. What browser are you using?

oh, yes yes, my note was for future posts:
(set maximum width Settings —> Media —> set.
434 max as Panos says.)With Settings —> Media —> set maximum width, you can set standard sizes of pics in new posts for Thumbnail, Medium, Large.
Full size images will appear when a reader clicks on an image when you choose “file url” when you upload then insert the image.
Choosing “post url” will make an attachment page, which is a different animal…
which you may or not want to know about. Not right now might be best. The issue of the visual editor (mountain image) not working is: which browser? and if it is explorer, then try maybe try firefox.
I wonder if something is going on with the powers that are though because I’ve had a couple of problems saving and editing recently. Firefox seems more stable even so.
