images vanish
-
I am using a Mac and have tried Firefox, Chrome, and Safari browsers with either the browser uploader or the other uploader and I am having the same problem which is this:
When I save while writing a blog in visual form the saved blog loses images and takes some of my text and puts it into image caption form, mushing stuff together. This happens on a large percentage of saves and has gotten worse over the past couple weeks.
My workaround is I almost always select all and copy the entire post before saving – then when the save scrambles the post this way I simply replace with what is on the clipboard. I do this because I have been burned so many times when not doing it. Instead of doing this I can rewrite the damaged portion of the post and reinsert the images which are in the gallery at that point. This does not happen on every save – but it happens on more than half of them.
I am still way under my picture quota. Why is this happening? How do I correct it? I have several blogs and have not encountered it on my other blogs – it always seems to happen on this one which uses a lot of pictures –

Thanks.

Possibly because you’re not careful with the captions. Many of them are messed up – check your latest posts and compare, for instance, the second captioned image (correct) with the six following ones (wrong). After you insert a captioned image, you must make sure you move the cursor outside the caption area before doing anything else. And captions aren’t editable: you cannot highlight them and use any of the tools of the editor to change their formatting.

Thanks, but … – I just went back and corrected those – though I would swear I did nothing differently than I have always done – I’ve been using this system for a couple years and the problem just started to crop up.
I corrected them by cutting out the offending captions in the editor, clicking on the image and choosing to edit it, then pasting in the cut caption in the caption box. When I hit
update” the picture would appear with no caption, but I could click under it in the caption space and paste in the caption again. I then not only moved the cursor out of the caption box – which I always do because if I don’t every piece of type will be centered from then on since captions are centered.Anyway, I saved – and when I did in the editor some of the captions looked correctly formatted and some didn’t – but when I went back to the post they all seemed correct.
In any event, I’ll try this with the post I’m working on – that is I’ll get out of the caption box AND add a space between pictures. maybe that will do it.
Again – thanks for the response – and I’ll see what happens next.

Most of the captioned images in your latest post are still wrong: notice that in most of them the frame doesn’t surround all four sides of the image as it should. When a captioned image is messed up, you can’t correct it by simply deleting then retyping the caption as you said you’ve done, because it’s not the caption itself that causes the problem: it’s the whole image+caption code that has been messed up. You need to delete the image and reinsert it.
In general, it’s safer to type all the text of a post first then insert the images.

Thanks – I’m still puzzled as to how this happens. Over the past two years I’ve used a lot of pictures in four different WP blogs and it’s only been in the last couple of weeks that I’ve run into this problem. I know HTML, so I’ll take a look at the code and see if that gives me any hint how it’s getting screwed up.
