Impact of switching Domain name

    Hi Everyone,

    I’ve been using WordPress for over 5 years now and have over 500 blogs articles documenting my yearly travels around India photographing and documenting heritage sites in the country.

    Although I have a Premium plan, I have never opted to have a personalized domain name, so I’m still on a wordpress.com domain.

    My question is specifically what the impact on my SEO would be if I did make that switch. There are quite a few of my articles that rank extremely high on Google, my concern is if I switch all that hard work might be impacted. Granted over time the rankings might go back up again, but I’m curious as to what the real world impact of doing this would be in the short-term.

    If anyone has some real world experiences of this it would be appreciated.

    I’m poised to make the change, just nervous that I might regret it as most of my traffic comes from Google searches.

    The old URLs will be permanently redirect to the new URLs, so there shouldn’t be any impact from that.
