Hi, I am looking to import my wix site in order to edit it further here in wordpress. Is this possible? Other than that when I import it, I keep getting the following message:

”It looks like we’re unable to reach that website address at this time. (ID: e56cc4ff-0032-4c08-be39-3a6cdf00baae)”

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

  • Howdy –

Thanks for getting in touch. I will be happy to help you get this content moved over on to holabarcacom.wordpress.com.

Generally speaking, this is the process you’ll follow:

Our Wix Importer is a quick way to move your content. All you have to do is provide your Wix site’s web address (called a URL). When the import is complete, you’ll have a site that’s pre-filled with your content and ready to be your new home on the web. If you’re working with a custom domain you can also connect that to WordPress.com as part of our managed hosting options. Those details are on https://wordpress.com/pricing/

If you already own a domain name with another provider, you can use that domain with your WordPress.com site. Once you complete the steps below, instead of your site address being something like yourgroovysite.wordpress.com, your site’s address will be something like yourgroovydomain.com. Follow the steps in this guide to keep your domain registered with your current provider and use it to show

    Hi!

    Thanks for getting back!

I know the mentioned process. It is just as I described I am unable to load and import the content as it can not read my WIX site. Could you help with getting this imported?

    Thanks

  • Hey there,

That is very strange, what error messages are you seeing exactly, when it comes to importing?

Are there any custom domains in use at Wix, and is the site public?

We’ll do our best to help for sure.

    hi,

I keep seeing this which is why I can not import it:

”It looks like we’re unable to reach that website address at this time. (ID: e56cc4ff-0032-4c08-be39-3a6cdf00baae)”

  • Thanks for confirming.

Sadly migrating from Wix can be difficult because they use a closed system and do not provide a way on their end to export content to WordPress sites. This is clear on their export support page, which does not actually show you how to export anything, and just gives you reasons to stay

Because of this, our import tool is best described as a workaround and one that can have issues from time to time.

The error message you describe has been reported to our developers and they are investigating a fix but I will be honest in saying we are having difficulty in making headway. I apologize that this is standing in your way to moving your content on to our service.

On our end we will continue to do what we can to address this issue, and we are happy to update this post as soon as we have more info. In the meantime other WordPress site owners have reported success in using the “RSS Import” method discussed here: https://themeisle.com/blog/transfer-from-wix-to-wordpress/

If you give that method a try it should import most of your content (though not your visual design) over to our service. Please note that the above method relies on a 3rd party plugin that is not installed on WordPress.com by default. It is possible to add it, but that will require an upgrade . Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Thanks for the explanations. I tried both but it seems impossible to integrate the site. Could you please help me integrating the site to wordpress platform. Other than that, I try to switch it as of navigation and geography purposes. Is this free and possible with wordpress?
Thank you and I hope I will be able to easily integrate it soon!

  • Hi again,

I tried both but it seems impossible to integrate the site. Could you please help me integrating the site to wordpress platform

Sadly, yes it can be difficult. Because our systems are so different, sometimes moving content can be more of a copy/paste affair, where you are bringing your text over a page at a time, and then starting over with a fresh design here at WordPress.com.

What is the URL of your current site? We’re happy to take a look and see if this seems reasonable. If your site with Wix is a smaller one, that is usually the best way forward.

Another option you might consider is our Built By WordPress.com Express service. This will allow you to submit your site information through our project intake form, select your design from our catalog of professionally designed themes, and we’ll create custom layouts for each page of your website and add your content to each of them.

You will receive an email with a link to your finished website within 4 business days. You also have the option to add more pages or simple e-commerce if needed. More info on Built By WordPress.com Express

You can see samples of some of the sites that we create through our Built By Express program here: https://wordpress.com/support/website-design-service/#demos-showcase

Other than that, I try to switch it as of navigation and geography purposes. Is this free and possible with wordpress?

I’m not sure what you meant by “navigation and geography” purposes, so I’m hoping you can explain in a bit more detail. :)

Generally speaking it’s definitely possible to set up a very professional looking free site here on WordPress.com. The only limitations to be aware of are that our free sites must use the “wordpress.com” address (custom URLs are an option if you upgrade) and we show ads on our frees sites to help cover our operating costs.

If you are setting up your own site, we have a great guide here that it may help you to follow: https://wordpress.com/learn/courses/create-your-site/

You may also want to drop in on one of our upcoming webinars, which is a great way to get up to speed with our tools: https://wordpress.com/learn/webinars/

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your help.

I meant that you have more options available with adding locations on a map which I have on my site.

Here is my link again to my website which I would like to integrate:
    https://thomasremmen.wixsite.com/holabarca

Hope you can still do this.

    Thank you!

We have several options for your maps:

    1. Map Block
    2. Google Maps custom map embed
    3. Carto custom map embed

The Map Block can be configured within WordPress.com by using that block in your post or page editor. The other two require you to set up the map on their service and take their embed link from there to use on your website.

I hope that clarifies things! Let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thank you!

But could somebody please help and let me integratie the page from wix as this is not working

  • Hi there,

You are trying to add a map to your site that has location markers within it? If so it is possible to add that by following the steps here: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/map-block/#add-additional-location-markers

But could somebody please help and let me integratie the page from wix as this is not working

Because our importer is not working, we do not have a way to seamlessly migrate your current site from Wix to WordPress. To do this Wix would need to make an official export process available, which they have opted not to do.

It is, however, possible to copy the contents of any page on your site (currently on Wix) and paste it into a blank page on your WordPress.com site, and this will bring over most of the text and images but not the design.

Sadly though, you will need to do this one at a time, copying over your homepage, Restaurants page, Tapas page, etc. Hope that helps.

    Hi,

Thanks. I removed all plugins. I am still unable to import it. Could you please help me to import everything from WIX to WordPress as I keep getting an error when I try to import it.

    Thank you

  • Hi again,

As I mentioned above, Wix does not provide a proper export file so it’s difficult for us to troubleshoot further. We have done our best to work around this limitation by reverse-engineered an “importer” but changes they make on their end can sometimes cause this tool to be non-functional.

We have reported this issue to our devs so they can take a closer look, but until they are able to address this we do not have a way to bring over your site in an automated fashion. The only way to move content is for you to copy/paste it page by page, which is not something we are able to help with. When we have more info about the importer we’re happy to update this thread to let you know.

As I also mentioned previously, Wix makes it possible to import a WordPress site to Wix but they do not provide a way for their site owners to export and move to any other platform so site owners can go in the opposite direction. That is very regrettable. It is also something that is very difficult for us to get around, sadly.
