Import an existing wordpress site to wordpress.com

    Is it possible to import an existing wordpress site, that is currently hosted elsewhere into wordpress.com?
    I have tried the method in “tools” and it does not even come close. I am probably talking about a combination of database dump (*.Sql) and file copy being saved from the original location then reloaded and configured at wordpress.com.
    Or are there some “safety” policies in place that prevent this?

    A flat out “can’t be done” or some solid instructions from someone who has done it (or wordpress staff) would be very appreciated.

    And btw, I HAVE searched for this question, but no REAL answer so far.

    You’re kidding. I knew the search was buggy, but I never imagined it was that buggy. Literally thousands of people import from WP.org sites daily and they do it by going to the support documents and typing in IMPORT.

    I am not kidding, I am just trying to get help. I have spent well over an hour searching, sent a support request to wp.com, with no response after 24 hours, and tried some of the “solutions”. Also I am I am trying to IMPORT an existing site INTO wp.com. not EXPORT from wp.com.

    The site I want to import is http://www.arbornovascotia.com/
    What is returned using the import tools method is
    Arborbackup.wordpress.com
    You will see there is little resemblance.

    So if you know the solution, please just send a link, or point me to the relevant information. I am just looking for some help in a new environment.

    You are trying to export from WP.org and import to WP.com. Simple. I already gave you the link.

    I appreciate your help, and I have tried this solution and got the result shown, which is way less than adequate.
    However I am not trying to go from wp.org or so.anything .
    I am trying to move a website constructed in the wordpress framework that is currently hosted on (I believe linode) a bare-iron hosting environment.
    The link you sent seems to offer some xml format that did not do the job. Can/will someone who has done a similar thing let me know if it can be done and if so, how?

    I know this sounds trivial if you know how to do it, but I have not yet figured out how? (Hence the request for help).

    I have move many websites, from bare-iron environments to another one, or to bluehost where I have access to file management tools, database tools and sometime command line tools, but the wordpress.com environment is new to me, and I have not yet found the tools that seem necessary, and wonder if there are some restrictions to doing what I am trying to do.
