Import and Overwrite
-
I moved from a personally hosted WordPress to WordPress.com hosted blog. All of my IMG tags reference “http://www.bwilms.com/pictures/….” and I need them to reference “https://brettwilms.files.wordpress.com/…”. I realized this after I imported the site to wordpress.com.
I’ve taken the exported XML and used a text editor (Notepad ++) and an advanced find and replace to do this swap out the string. I imported the updated XML to WordPress.com through my Admin panel (to which I received an “Import Successful” email), but none of my posts were updated with the new string.
Is there a way to re-import and overwrite the existing content? I considered deleting all of my posts and starting over, but it is cumbersome to do on my own. I’d be fine if WordPress Support gave me a fresh start so I could try again. I just want to make sure I’m not missing something I can do on my own.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
I’m happy to empty your site of content if you’d like. Usually our importer will rewrite the image references once it is able to grab and upload the image to your Media Library.
Can you check if the images made it to your Media Library? If they did, I can ask one of our developers to run a script to fix your image URLs instead of having you go through the entire import again. :)

Yes, the images are in my Media Library. It would be wonderful if they could run the find/replace script. Let me know how I get them the details. Thanks!

Thanks for confirming! I’ve put in a request for our developers to take a look. I’ll let you know when I hear back. :)

Hi there! Our developers did a little work to update all of the image URLs they could. There are some images references to your old site that don’t seem to exist in your Media Library, so we weren’t able to fix those.
Let me know if I can help further!

Thank you very much! If you happen to have it, I would love a list of the ones they couldn’t fix. Otherwise, I’ll taken care of them manually. Thanks again.

I don’t have a list of those for you. You should be able to find them by scrolling through your site. Let me know if you have any trouble with that!
