Hey there!
If your Media Library lived locally on your own computer, rather than as a live site, your images won’t import.
As per our export support page:
Note: This will ONLY export your posts, pages, comments, categories, and tags; uploads and images may need to be manually transferred to the new blog. The current version of the WordPress.org installation gives you the option to import uploaded files, but the blog you are importing from must be live and serving images properly in order for it to work. So, do not delete your blog until after media files have successfully been imported into the new blog.
If you are planning to export your content to another blog platform, it’s best to manually download and save your images from your WordPress.com Media Library to before trying to import/upload them into the new blog.
Sorry I can’t be more helpful. If I’m not understanding exactly where your export file came from, and where it went to…let me know and I can assist further!
Thanks much.

I have figured out where the images are in my local host files. So no matter what I have to manually replace all those images in the pages…right?
separate question: I downloaded thru MAMP the wp files and built my site on my own computer. Now If I migrate my word press site to another host’s server will I have all the platform word press files I need to have it run properly? Or will it only work if I go to wordpress.com premium? (I have a domain already I will be using for the site) -

Yes. Media files are imported as attachment links. Our servers find and upload Media by accessing the public URL where your image files can be found. Because your site is not public, they will not transfer over. In your case, you will have to make the move manually.

If you move your site to another host’s server, your WordPress site will be self-hosted.
The Premium upgrade is only useful if you’re hosting your site here at WordPress.com.

okay new topic…. the plugins didn’t seem to come across either. And I don’t see a menu item on the dashboard for plugins anymore. On my localhost site it’s under appearance..But not on the site now that I migrated to WP. I get that I may have to manually reload them…but where on the new dashboard do I access that function?

Hey there! It really sounds to me like you’re going to need to self-host you WordPress site, rather than host here at WordPress.com.
WordPress.com does not offer the option to install third-party plugins. If you would like more control over plugins and the option to install your own, a WordPress.org setup would be the best solution for you.

WordPress.com has a lot of built-in features that were inspired by popular plugins. Chances are, the feature you are looking for is already there! You can search our support site via this link:
