Import created many categories

I recently imported some content from one WP blog to another. When I did, instead of dumping all the posts with the category “Crime” into the category Crime on the destination site, it created a new and separate category of Crime for each individual post – and it did this for several categories, in fact, meaning I now have about 300 duplicate categories with one post each.

In theory, if I delete the category it should dump the post into the default category, and I could create a dummy default category to use for transferring. But that isn’t what happens in most cases. It works if the post has Crime as its only category, but many posts have two categories (or more) selected, and in the cases it does not reassign Crime to Default.

Is there anyway I can avoid manually recategorizing several hundred posts here?

    Many thanks.

  • Hi Samuel, I’d be glad to try to help with this. Could you please provide a link to the site with the duplicates so I can have a look? Thanks.

  • It looks like this was already reported to our developers by another Happiness Engineer. Once they’ve had a look, you’ll hear back from Kris directly by email.
