Import delay and missing
-
Hi. I’ve tried to import my xanga’s backup .xml files(there are 12 in total) to this wordpress site, from file 1 to 12. But the wordpress site doesn’t show every previous xanga blog post which means some posts are missing. So I did the process again from file 1 to 12. Then more new posts are added, but some are repeatedly imported twice, and still there are lots of posts missing. So I did the 3rd time. Now I’m stucked in the middle that it keeps saying ‘processing’ after I imported the file and waited for really long time, guess like 1-2 days. Please help.
Also I wanna ask how can I import ALL my xanga posts to the wordpress site, though as said above, I’ve already tried to do the cycle of importing .xml files from the first to the last one for 2 times and the import is obviously still incomplete. I’ve been dealing with this for months. Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I have reset the importer for you, so you should be able to try that import again.
Can you please try using the WordPress importer option instead of the Xanga one and see if your posts import correctly then.
Let me know if you still have trouble with this.

Hi there,
The importer shouldn’t import posts that are already published, or in drafts or trash on the site, so it’s not necessary to delete the posts that are already there.
If you do want to delete them to make sure, just make sure to clear out the trash folder as well before importing.

@kokkieh that’s weird…cos I got some repeated posts before when I imported the same backup files on another deleted wordpress blog. Anyways, so that means all I need to do is to just start importing from file 1 to the last file 12 on WordPress importer option instead of the Xanga one without skipping one of the files and the system will automatically help me to skip the published posts? Thanks.

That’s how it is supposed to work, but I know Xanga import files sometimes does odd things.
Please try importing as you’ve described here, and let me know if it doesn’t work so we can try something else.

It shouldn’t take that long if everything works as it should. 2-3 hours per file is closer to normal (unless your files are really large), so perhaps let me know if you spot it’s taking longer than that.

You’re right. And I’ve done the second file already and I see ‘new’ posts published. Thanks!

Done all! Seems I’ve got all posts on this blog now!
But for safety do you think I could do this cycle again to make sure I really get everything here and at the same time the importer can still skip posts if there are repeated ones?
Thanks again!

If you look on the WP-Admin dashboard it will show you exactly how many posts, pages and comments are on your site now:
http://isaacxangablog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/Those numbers reflect what is physically on your site, so if they seem right, then you should be fine. However, you won’t break anything by trying the import again. It will still skip importing any content that already exists, yes.

Yea…but I forgot how many posts I’ve made, so I can only do once again. Thanks Kokkieh for your great help and quick response! :)
