Import email followers from csv

Hi there,
I’m moving from a self hosted wordpress site (www.benandjacs.com) to wordpress.com free. I have been using a plugin called ‘Subscribe 2’ to notify family and friends (~60 people) of new posts on our blog. Given that I am now using wordpress.com under the free plan, I was wondering if I can setup automated email notifications of new posts to the same list of people (which I can export as csv) using Jetpack or another solution?Thanks

Hi there,
Following/subscriptions on WordPress.com are strictly opt-in only, so there is no way to add followers to a WordPress.com site without their explicit consent. We can transfer followers who subscribed via the Jetpack plugin on a self-hosted site to a WordPress.com site (meaning they’ll be removed from the self-hosted site and added to the WordPress.com site instead), but it’s not possible to import a list of emails directly. It’s also not possible to import the CSV into Jetpack first, as Jetpack subscriptions fall under the same opt-in only policy as WordPress.com sites.
However, under My Site ->People Add you can invite people via email to follow your site. They’ll receive an email with a link to accept the invitation. They’ll then be prompted to create a WordPress.com account, but they can also opt to only sign up for email notifications instead if they prefer.
Note that you will only be able to invite ten followers at a time. This is a measure to prevent the feature being abused by spammers. So you’ll be able to invite ten people, but will then have to wait a while before you can invite the next ten.

You can of course import those emails into a newsletter service like MailChimp, and use that to send out notifications of new posts separately from the automatic WordPress.com notifications.
