Hi there,
To get started, please follow our import guide for self-hosted WordPress.org sites: https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-a-sites-content/
In summary, here’s a step-by-step breakdown of the process:
- First, you’ll need to extract the contents of your zip file. This should include an XML file, which contains your site’s content (posts, pages, comments, etc.).
- Next, navigate Tools > Import and Select WordPress.
- Click the link that says, “upload it to import content”.
- Select the extracted XML file from your computer. Then, click “Upload file and import.”
- During the import process, you’ll be asked to assign an author for the imported content. You can either choose an existing author or create a new one.
- Finally, click “Submit,” and the import process will begin.
Once the import is complete, you’ll receive a notification. I’d recommend double-checking your content and media to make sure everything has been imported successfully.
Please note that an XML import references the media files (images, videos, audio, etc.) on the source site. The XML file does not contain the media files themselves. For the media to be successfully imported to the new site, the source site should be publically accessible.
If you encounter any issues or have further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help.
