Hey! I’ve opened my wordpress today, and I already have a local wordpress database. When I try to upload (import) this database to the new onlie wordpress, it’s fails. The database file which I try to import is an XML doc (75Ko) directly extracted from the local wordpress.

    Why can’t I import this file ?

    THanks

    Hey!
Thanks for your quick replies! I tried to reimport this morning, and the same problem appears : import tool is frozen, and a new “import fail” email has been sent to me.

    Thanks!

I tried to import contents from a selfhosted wordpress site, but the umport runs since several weeks and never stopped.
How can I stop the import to be able to retry the operation ?

    Hi mer4711,

I don’t see a stuck WordPress import file on either one of the WordPress.com sites affiliated with your account: mer4711 or diemeindls. Could you please tell me into what site you are attempting your import?

It appears as if you may have attempted a Xanga import, but you mentioned you were importing a WordPress.org-exported XML file. Can you clear up this issue for me?

    Thanks much!

    Hi thatrobyn,

I tried to import into diemeindls. After the import was telling me several days that I should wait for a mail, I also tried a Xanga import just to find out if it behaves different, but knowing it is the wrong format.
Today I found out that the import was not hanging any more and successfully could import the wordpress.org file. T he only problem that is left for me is, that the import seems to omit all images.

“We are sorry, but there was an error while performing import your blog to http://enunabaldosa.wordpress.com
Please contact support , and we’ll get everything fixed. “

They could delete the file? I want to import the file again.

    enunabaldosa and oklachahiya,

I have deleted the import jobs. Please try running your imports again.

If it fails again, let us know by opening a new thread, and we can further investigate the issue for you. It confuses the original ticket if you piggyback on an existing thread. You can open your own here:

    mer4711,

Because of the way your images were added to your WordPress.org site, the image links within your posts look like this (for example):

    “/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/20140716-IMG_6598.jpg”

This doesn’t pull anything from a WordPress.com site, so your images appear broken. Because they aren’t complete URLs that lead back to your old WordPress.org site, the images also aren’t being pulled from there, either.

Is your self-hosted, WordPress.org site still live? If so, it’s possible to make an adjustment to your XML file so the images still work. Let me know the URL of that site, if it is live.

If you’ve already pulled down your self-hosted site, the images may have to be added manually to your WordPress.com site.

    Let me know. Thanks much.

    thatrobyn,

you gave me the ultimate hint to the solution. In the XML file I changed all relative urls to fully qualified urls and also had to fix <wp:base_site_url> and <wp:base_blog_url> to the fully qualified url.
Now the import is pulling the images in.

    Many thanks !

    Reinhold!

Perfect. Thank you so much for letting me know this! It’ll be great info to have for future importers facing a similar issue. Much appreciated!

    Best to you.
