  I tried migrating from another site and honestly expected it to fail, but can you give me more detail or suggest how I might proceed?

  Found the problem. Apparently WPENGINE is not using the SFTP protocol, but is using the old SCP protocol (scp command line option “-O”).

  Is there any way I can get this option for the migration tool?

  Another option would be to use a 3rd party migration plugin like the All-in-One WP Migration plugin. We did not create this plugin but it has been shown to work in some tricky situations and we have a guide you can refer to here : https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-using-all-in-one-migration/

  Yes, I used the Jetpack method as indicated by the URL, above. That failed because of the protocol incompatibility. Apparently it can’t possibly work from WP Engine to WordPress.com because of that incompatibility.

  I’ll try a manual migration, which might be easier. Copy the files, change some config params, upload the database.

  Let me know if you have any interest in getting the Jetpack method working.

  The Jetpack method does work on sites that use standard hosting, but I can see that it might struggle with the added security and authentication that SCP uses, which is why I suggested trying a 3rd party tool like AIOWPM. That plugin operates a bit differently in that it uses a specially formatted export file that you download to your computer and then upload to the new site, so it may be worth a try in the event it is able to work around sites using secure copy protocol for file access.

  You can also migrate manually since you have SFTP and MySQL access on this end to make the changes you need.

  Hey there,

  Usually AIOWPM works thankfully.

  You may face issues with the site post migration, for instance, you may find yourself having to re-login to WP Admin, and/or having to reset the Jetpack connection.

  This is expected and we can help with resetting everything as it should be. At that point, please do reach out and can cross the i’s and dot the t’s.
