Import failed — too large?

  • Unknown's avatar

I attempted an import (one category) from my hosted WP site, but the email said it failed. It was probably too large — I was going to try it in smaller chunks, but now the ‘import’ page of the dashboard still says the other one is ‘processing’.

Can that condition be cleared, and what would be the ‘preferred’ size for an XML import to go smoothly?

    Thank you.

  • Hi, I cleared the pending import for you so that you can import the file again. Anything below 15MB should work properly. Let us know if you run into more trouble. Thanks!

Hmm — the size of the XML that ‘failed’ was only 527 KB… Maybe it would help if the user were given some sort of reason for the failure — otherwise, we’re pretty much just left guessing, and no clue what to do differently, if anything.

I tried a smaller file – 32KB – and that seemed to work. Well, sort of. All posts were from a single category that didn’t exist on the new blog. So the import process created the category — but left all the posts in ‘uncategorized’. Sigh.

Well, at least they appear to be there.

  • Hmm, sorry about the trouble with this. It may be a bug in how our importer is handling the import file. If the rest of the posts don’t import properly let me know and we can work on the import file manually.

Not big deal — I’m more concerned with getting the content up there. I can kick the categories around where I need to.

Just thought I’d let you know — something to be aware of. I’ll continue to try the smaller import files, and hopefully they’ll continue to work without you guys having to babysit!
