Import from another wordpress.com blog failed

    import from another wordpress blog failed. I’m helping a friend re-design their blog. So several weeks ago I created my own wordpress.com account, export their blog (http://therealmacaroncompany.wordpress.com/wp-admin) from their account and then imported to my account as a blog (http://richardavisblog.wordpress.com/wp-login.php). Fine. Then we re-designed on the copy of the blog on my account. Today I have exported the re-designed blog in my account (I was not asked if I wanted to export media files and indicated by some of your help texts; I do want new media files to be exported) and then gone back to my friends original blog on her account and tried to import the just exported XML file. I get a email saying successful import so now my friends blog should have been overwritten. It has not. In fact I think the import has jumbled up the two. One thought: the blog is call ‘therealmacaroncompany’ on both my and my friends account. Does this confuse the import routine?
    I have admin rights on both accounts.

    Imports do not overwrite previous content. If you had exported the content of blog A and imported it into blog B, and then exported blog B and imported it into blog A again, the only thing that would have changed on blog A is that new posts/pages/comments/media that was created on blog B should be appearing on blog A.

    Once a post or page exists, an import of the same content will not overwrite it, but the new post/page should appear in the trash and can be retrieved from there.

    If this is a significant issue, I could empty the content from http://therealmacaroncompany.wordpress.com, and then you could do the import again.

    To do so, I would need to have confirmation from the blog owner that they wish to do this, and they would need to acknowledge that emptying the blog removes all existing posts, pages, comments, media, tags, and categories, and that this process cannot be reversed.

    By the way, it doesn’t matter that both blogs have the same title, as our system still considers them to be separate blogs.
