Import from Blogger to WordPress.com hangs, and Post's content does not appear.
-
Hello, after using for a long time Blogger at http://lettersmid.blogspot.com we decided to move our current Blog to http://LetterDetteke.WordPress.com
We have followed the import instructions, however after a 8 hours, the post’s content still does not appear.
The import hangs also at 318 Posts from the 362 available Post’s
We tried already a couple of times the Reset Importer, without any luck.
Can someone take a look at the system what might goes wrong?
Thanx in advance !The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there – I’ve restarted the current import job on your site. If the rest of your posts still don’t make it in by tomorrow, please let me know and we’ll look at emptying your site so you can try again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

emptying the site, is deleting all content as an empty blog? and then try to re-import again? I did this twice already without any luck. I am wondering if WordPress.com has maybe issues reading the Blogspot.com site. I will wait some more to see if things change.

Would you mind having a look at your import page? It’s currently asking you to set authors:
https://letterdetteke.wordpress.com/wp-admin/admin.php?import=blogger
Would you mind clicking the button “Set Authors” and see if it’s able to proceed?
-
Authors is set and afterwards I’m being redirected to the Admin Post’s page in the dashboard.
All Post’s ( 318 of 362 – some are missing ) appear there, meaning the Title and comments, but not the Post content.
I have no clue what goes wrong.
Thanks for the support :-) -
Some update:
I installed the software from WordPress.org on my server and imported the blog from blogspot.com flawlessly.
So I decided to remove all post’s and pages from LetterDetteke.WordPress.com and start over. The result is:
Goshdarnit!
Something has gone wrong with our servers. It’s probably Matt’s fault.
We’ve just been notified of the problem.
Hopefully this should be fixed ASAP, so kindly reload in a minute and things should be back to normal.
After some time my dashboard appeared again :-) everything empty.
I imported again from the blogger address and it hangs again at 318 of 362 posts.
Comments are imported, but posts content is still missing.I hope WordPress.com Staff can assist? or stick to Blogger…?
Thanx in advance.

Seems I figured out the problem…
The Hero door theme I was using caused the issue.
( Hero door by antthemes ) Maybe antthemes can check this out.
I switched to TwentyTwelve Theme and started over again, first by emptying the whole LetterDetteke.WordPress.com blog.
Then re-imported and now post’s content appear. -
Problem part II:
Not all post’s are being imported:All (320) |
Published (318) |
Drafts (2) |There should be 362 post’s being imported and hangs at 320.
Anybody any idea how to fix this? -
Thanks for the updates. I’m going to ask our developers for some help in sorting this out for you. I’ll keep you posted.
-
Hi there – our developers suggest you try one of the two methods.
Before going either of these routes, we would first need to empty your site once you give us permission. Tthis will remove all posts, pages, images, comments, and any other uploaded content, and can’t be undone.
Method 1
Generate an export file at Blogger and upload it to your WordPress.com site instead of using our automated importer.
Method 2
Generate an export file from your successful WordPress.org import, and then import that file into your WordPress.com site.
Please let me know if you’d like us to proceed with emptying your site.

Hi there too :-)
Emptying the site as you can do is this at the same level as when I remove all post’s pages, images & categories?
I did this when i tried over again.1> Feel free to empty the site LetterDetteke.WordPress.com, hereby the permission. (You – KathrynWP are a admin too like me as a member, i send you an invitation so you can see what happens)
2>Method 1 –> I did this as well, and there is no difference as with the automated importer.
3>Method 2 –> That was exactly the idea and reason to use the WordPress.org software on my own server and from the export and import again in WordPress.com
The problem there is that the post’s count hangs also at 320 post’s instead of the 362.I manged after a reset importer and then re-import again to increase the number of post’s to 340. No luck to go on till the full 362 count. – for the LetterDetteke.WordPress.com version.

Hi there – I’m going to send you an email shortly so we can continue to troubleshoot this. Let me know if you don’t receive it.
-
I received and send you the reply with the ticket number and a *.zip file with the 2 XML’s, one from Blogspot.com and one from the WordPress.org version. :-)

Hello Kathryn, I have some news:
After checking and verifying all post’s I came to the conclusion that Blogger had some post’s multiplied, where the difference is coming from. The post’s have been imported in the right way.
The next thing what I noticed was that all blogspot.com Tag’s were converted to categories, and we wanted to have it as Tag’s again. The solution I found was to Install the WordPress.org Categorie – Tag coverter on the temporary selfhosted version and export the XML file and import again in the LetterDetteke.WordPress.com which resulted in 502 post’s. (I hoped the import would skip the content which was already present)
1>
Can you or someone else from the WordPress team do a (sql) query to remove the double post’s and comments so it is normal again?
I hope you can assist,2>
The only task left is to invite all the followers from the blogspot.com address to visit the new LetterDetteke.WordPress.com blog, and follow this one. -
After all has been checked, and the blogspot.com isn’t authorized anymore in the import section, can the content then be removed from blogspot.com ? In other words, all has been transfered to WordPress.com or will this be affected?
Thanx for all your assistance.

Thanks for the information – I’ll pass it along to our developers and will get back to you about your questions.

Can you or someone else from the WordPress team do a (sql) query to remove the double post’s and comments so it is normal again?
Hi – I’ve just done that – the deleted posts are in the trash, so you can selectively restore them if necessary – 192 duplicate posts have been deleted.
