Import from Movable Type – timeout errors

    I have around 4000-5000 entries from movable type i need to import to finovate.wordpress.com

    I exported the movable type blog – it’s a giant txt file with entries separated like so (content removed for brevity):

    BASENAME:

    ALLOW COMMENTS: 1
    CONVERT BREAKS:
    ALLOW PINGS: 0
    PRIMARY CATEGORY:

    I am using the import from movable type and typepad plugin which only allows 1MB file sizes. Okay so I break up my entries into multiple files that are 1MB or less. When I try to import one file, I end up with a 502(?) error, something about nginx and when I check my posts, only 40 or so are uploaded when a file has at least several hundred entries.

    I think I need to change some sort of timeout setting somewhere? Can anyone help? The last MT to WP importing guide I found was from 2004.
