Import from self hosted WP not working – stuck

  Hi,

  Sorry if this has been asked before (I did try a search, but didn’t come up with anything helpful).

  I’m trying to move a self hosted wordpress blog to wordpress.com, using the instructions provided
  https://en.support.wordpress.com/coming-from-self-hosted/

  When I imported the xml file in WP.com I got the usual message

  Importing takes 15 minutes or a while longer if your site has a lot of media. You can safely navigate away from this page if you need to: we’ll send you a notification when it’s done.

  This was on June 9th. We’re now June 13th, and it still displays that message. I’ve tried to contact support (three times now), but so far no reply.

  Anyone have any tips on how to proceed?

  Sometimes, if the files are too large, there can be issues while Importing, there are cases faced in these, the staff can assist you in it and help you further to import it..!

  It looks the importer stalled so I’ve reset it for you. Please try importing your file again and come back to me if you have any problems.

  Thanks for this. Unfortunately it still seems stalled. The message is still there and the import button is grayed out, so I cannot upload the xml file anew. Could you assist?

  Hi volume12,

  How large is the .xml file? The importer supports individual files up to 15MB — if the .xml file is larger than this it will need to be broken down into smaller files.

  If it’s under 15MB, let me know and I’ll contact you by email so you can send me a copy of the file.

  Yes, if you go to the Export tool on your WordPress.org site the ‘all content’ option is selected by default. Try exporting posts, media and pages separately — this should create several smaller files that can be imported individually.

  Hi gemmacevans,

  Thanks again for your help. I’ve been able to export everything separately, and the posts themselves into three chunks under 14MB.

  When go the import page under settings, it appears to be still stalled.

  I’m not seeing an stalled imports on this end so please try clearing your browser cache using these steps:

  Solve Common Browser Issues

  Then try uploading again. I’ll keep my fingers crossed but come back to me if you’re still having issues.

  As this has the same title, can I ask similar help.

  I’ve had the message “Importing takes 15 minutes or a while longer if your site has a lot of media.” for the last 24 hours.

  My file is 34Mb, so I know why now, from the above info. But I need to stop the import, and try again with smaller files.

  My blog is abcdiamond.wordpress.com
