Import from Tumblr stalling out
-
While importing data fro Tumblr, the import stalls out at 100/345 (note the posts are non-media rich, mostly links with quotes/excerpts)
* Disconnected and re-authorized Tumblr/WP (a few times, no change)
* Cleared cookies, tried from incognito window, changed VPN location (no change)
* Checked to see if post #100 was corrupted or non-normal in some way (same as other posts)
* Added additional posts so #100 was a *different* #100 (no change, still stalled at 100/34x)Any other options to try? Any advice?
Thanks

Hi there,
Can you please let me know on which site under your account you’re running the import so I can further help you?
Thanks!

Hi –
I need to know which WordPress.com site address you are trying to process the import on. There are 20 different sites owned by this WordPress.com user account. Thanks.

Hello and thanks,
The site / address is:
https://dossierofhealing.wordpress.com/
Please let me know if any other info i’ve neglected to include which would help you.

I have reset the importer. Can you please try importing your content again? Please us the importer from the WP Admin interface:
https://dossierofhealing.wordpress.com/wp-admin/admin.php?import=tumblr
If this still doesn’t work or you have more questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help!

Hi reconnected Tumblr, and restarted import from the WP Admin interface, but still stalls out at 100. Imports the first 100 quickly but then just “hangs” and spins. Any other ideas?

The reason the first 100 went quickly the last time you tried, is because those posts had already been imported, so the importer actually just skipped them. That tells me it’s getting stuck on a specific post.
I’ve reset the importer again.
Can you please check in the posts list at https://dossierofhealing.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php whether the posts are importing in the same order they appear on your Tumblr site. If so, try to find out what is the next post that’s failing to import. There might be something in that post – a link, and embedded file, some code – that is causing our importer to stall. See if deleting that specific post causes the rest of the posts after it to import correctly.

thanks for your help. the posts are importing in the same order, i removed post #101 from Tumblr, reset/started import but still hangs on 100. added a couple of new posts (to change number sequence) reset/started and same result. reviewed most of posts to see if anything stands out as “different” (i.e. with embedded code, scripts etc) but all pretty standard.
weird conundrum indeed! any other ideas? must be something so obvious i’m not seeing it :)

Okay, I’ve found something else we can try. There is an app that you can use to export a Tumblr site as a .xml file that’s compatible with the WordPress importer on your site. We did not create this, so use at own risk, but it looks like some of my colleagues have recommended this in the past with positive results:
https://tumblr2wordpress.benapps.net/
Once you have that file, go to My Site ->Settings and select the Import option there to import the file.
Just note, if the file ends up bigger than 15MB we’ll first need to split it before you can import it, but at 300 or so posts on your site it shouldn’t be anywhere near that big.
Please let me know how that goes.

Much thanks, will give this a try and let you know how it goes. And risk noted and accepted.
