import from wordpress blog to wordpress blog

Oh, I see. Thanks.

But is it true what sunburntkamel says about having to remove all the posts that I’ve aleady imported using the RSS feed? I hope not, because there’s loads of them.

Ok, I’ve sorted it out now. I used technosailor’s plugin, which worked a treat. Duplicate posts are not imported, so I’m happy. This issue is resolved for me. Thanks, Dr Mike :)

Not a problem. :)

Before I import my entries from my old WP blog, I wanted to ask what happens to my Categories? I know the categories are also imported, but say I have a Weekends category in the old blog, and I have another Weekends category in my new blog (both categories have different posts). Will the posts in the Weekends of the old blog be imported to the Weekends of the new blog?

Thanks. I hope my explanation was clear.

Only the links in your blogroll will have to be done again and by that I mean have a category re-assigned to them. Everything else including categories in posts and drafts will be the same as it was in the first blog.

I used the plug-in this weekend and ended up with a mess, I’m hosting my blog in godaddy and after importing I found out all my categories are gone. What might have caused that? And, how can I fix this.

I am going from wordpress.com blog to a wordpress.org blog.

The technosailor plugin works great, it moves the comments over so I am happy. The only thing though is on the new blog, I see the comments, but the names of the commentors are gone. Same thing author names on the posts, they are gone too.

When I go to the dashboard, all the authors have a name like this: <![CDATA[AUTHOR_NAME]]>
Because the plugin inserts the <![CDATA[author name here]]>, because of those extra symbols, the author or poster’s name does not show up. Is there a way around this to fix it, instead of manually editing everything?
