'Import from wordpress' frozen on 'Import WordPress Processing… '

When I set up my wordpress.com site I imported queued posts from my self-hosted site.
Unfortunately I had more lined up than the import processes on .com would allow, so after some shenanigans the first 50 or so posts were imported and the rest lost.
Now however when I try to import anything fresh as queued posts, the Tools / Import / WordPress sequence just gets me to a screen saying
‘Import WordPress Processing…
We’re processing your import now and will send you an email when it’s all done. If you don’t hear from us within 24 hours, please contact support, and we’ll get everything fixed.’Is it stuck forever or can it somehow be reset so I can line up the next dozen or so posts?

What is the size of the XML file, please?
Is the site you have the XML export file from still online?
If yes, what is the URL?Sometimes the importer gets stuck. If the file is large you may have to import Posts, Pages, etc. in separate files. Or if the file is very large Staff may have to do the import.
