Import from WordPress problem
-
Sometime ago, I’d imported the contents of another blog to my test blog. I’d received an e-mail telling me that an error ocurred. So far, so good, but now I can’t import any content again. When I click on Tools -> Import -> WordPress, there’s a message telling me of a pending import, and nothing else: there isn’t a button to indicate the import file, nothing! I know I can import to other blogs, as I’ve already did, but this particular blog don’t allow this. It’s a test blog, hidden and private, but it’s annoying to not have this anymore to experiment a little. Anyone else had this problem?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Woohoo!!!! Everything alright now! Thanks!
By the way, I’m having some issues with the blavatar (again…). I’ve already posted a blavatar for my older blogs, but I just can’t get it right with the newer ones. I’ve already tried square images with 32px, 64px, 128px, 256px and 512px, with several file formats (PNG-8, PNG-24 and JPG of several quality levels, always generated by Adobe Photoshop CS3 or CS6). Can we try to solve this by here or would you like me to open a new topic? -
Sure, we can work on that here. Are you uploading via Settings -> General?
If so, can upload the desired file via Media -> Add New in your blog’s Dashboard?

I’ve been working on getting wordpress upgraded, since last night. I finally have everything connected on dreamhost, but I am having trouble doing the one click method. It keeps telling me I have files in the way. I don’t even know where the files are so I can take them out. My eyes hurt and I have a headache. I want this to be over. Can you help.

You’re referring to a self-hosted WordPress.org blog, which we really can’t help with.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
WordPress.org has complete documentation and support sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at http://codex.wordpress.org/ and http://wordpress.org/support/

Yes, I’m uploading via Settings -> General, clicking on the button to select the file and after that clicking on the other button to send it. Then a screen is displayed with the correct image on it, allowing me to crop it (not necessary). After I confirm that, a message is displayed, telling me I’ll see it soon on my blog, but without showing the three sizes of it above, as happened when I’ve made it on the older blogs. After that, I returned to the Settings -> General screen and the image doesn’t show up. I’ve waited for weeks and it still not showing up.
I don’t tried to upload it via Media -> Add New, but I’ll do that tomorrow, as I’m away from my office. I’ll post more info as soon as I can. -

OK, the blavatar image has been uploaded without trouble. I also tried to send it through Settings -> General again, but I’m still stuck. I’d tried on other blog as well, http://robothobby.wordpress.com/ (still private, but I’m putting it online soon), but I’ve got the same issue, so it’s not blog related. Maybe it’s account related?
In the past, I could send blavatars without hassle, as can be seen on http://blogdoalfafa.wordpress.com/, http://dicasdoalfafa.wordpress.com/ and http://roboticablog.wordpress.com/. This is just bugging me now! -
Hm, I’m not entirely sure what happened. I was able to set the blog icon on http://testesdoalfafa.wordpress.com/ without issue. I think something in your browser or local setup may be conflicting.
First, please make sure that your browser is up to date by visiting http://whatbrowser.org/
If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.
If it is, please do these four things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies: http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/
2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled: http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

I’ve noticed the icon on http://testesdoalfafa.wordpress.com/. But I’m not certain about the browser issue, as I already tried cleaning the cache (found the link prior to asking it here). Usually my choice is Google Chrome, and I use it regularly at the office on several Macs running Leopard (10.5, so it’s outdated at version 20), on another Mac running Mountain Lion (10.8, updated to latest version). But I also tried on PCs running Windows 7 with Chrome fully updated and that doesn’t work as well. Tomorrow I’ll try on Safari on both Leopard and Mountain Lion Macs, on Opera on Mountain Lion and on Firefox on Mountain Lion.
Something I just thought right now: we’re behind a proxy/firewall at the office. I’ll try it right now at home (ancient Windows XP box with latest Google Chrome) and I’ll post it in a few minutes. -
Damn!!!!! It worked!!!! Could it be the proxy/firewall???? Everything else is normal!!!! How could be??
-
The could very well be it, or another local limitation on the work computer. Some offices are set up to prevent file transfer, so they block uploads, like adding an image.
-
Well, thank you very much! Now I’ll be dealing with the final setup of the blog. See ya!!
