Import from wordpress without being able to export
-
I was hosting my own wordpress blog on my office computer, but the computer melted. The harddrive was intact, however, so I have a copy of my blog folder. I would like to import my old blog posts into my new wordpress.com blog. But the instructions I found here:
http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/02/23/how-do-i-move-between-blogs-2/
tell me to export from the old blog first. I don’t know how or if I can do that. I tried to get the blog running on my laptop, using MAMP, but I really don’t know what I’m doing. Any pointers would be much appreciated. Is there a way to import without first exporting, or do I have to get the blog running on my laptop first so I can export? If I have to get it running, how do I do that?

Hmm – I think that is a question for the self-hosting folks. The only way to import here at wordpress.COM is to have a valid file http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/09/import-from-blogger-typepad-mt-lj/ So you are going to have to figure out how to export your old blog.
I’d say ask this question in the .ORG forums because they are the ones who would have experience with how to get the old blog running. That forum is located at http://wordpress.ORG/support
