import from WP XML file – missing hundreds of posts

  • Unknown's avatar

I am importing xml file from a WP website.
When importing I was asked to map the user to author
I did try the first few hundreds but then skipped the rest thinking that the program will “default” itself to something reasonable

Looking at the resulting webpage – I am happy except for missing several hundred posts.

I also notice that when I try to re-import, I cannot do this. There is this message:
“We’re processing your import now and will send you an email when it’s all done. If you don’t hear from us within 24 hours, please contact support, and we’ll get everything fixed.”

I checked my e-mail and no message from WP on this import reached me after several hours. The import process however has stopped.

The problem might be due to max file size, however I notice that only posting from Nov 2010 to 2015 are missing. So this hypothesis might not be true

If due to max size of XML, , I can split the export into smaller size – and re-import. The key is to give me a chance to re-import.

    Request to WP:
    1. Please allow me to re-import and I will make sure that user/author mapping are done properly

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When trying to import the missing posts – after 24 hours – this message is still there: “

We’re processing your import now and will send you an email when it’s all done. If you don’t hear from us within 24 hours, please contact support, and we’ll get everything fixed.”

I need help to import the rest of the posts to complete the import

    Hallo
The sound of silence is deafening, after 3 days. I still saw the same message
“We’re processing your import now and will send you an email when it’s all done. If you don’t hear from us within 24 hours, please contact support, and we’ll get everything fixed.”

Please help to switch off this message so that I can import the rest of the post…..!

    Hi there,

I just reset your site’s importer so you can try that import again. Sorry for the trouble with it! If you run into any further trouble please let me know.

In the future, you can add the tag “modlook” to a forum thread if you need staff attention. Posting multiple times in the same thread makes it harder for staff to see that you still need help (because it makes it look like you already received replies to help with your question), so that modlook tag will make sure we see the forum thread.

Thank you very much. I just did the import and majority of my posts are now imported – except missing 23 posts

I need another reset of the IMPORT tool

Thank you very much for your help

Sure thing! I just reset the importer again for you. If you continue to have trouble importing the rest of your posts, please let me know and I can investigate that for you. :)

Thank you. I will import the rest. This will be the last one. Thank you for your cooperation and help

    Hi there,

I reset your importer again. This time, the importer stopped after running into a comment that was too long — that’s sometimes due to spam comments that are very long. Can you check to make sure you don’t have any spam comments on your original blog, and then export those posts again? That will help the importer with those posts.

If you don’t find any spam comments on your original blog, or if you’d like more help with that import, please let me know. :)

Thanks again Rachel. This time, I stop importing and just leave everything not yet imported out of my blog.

My only concern is that so many photos and graphics are missing. The URL used are from the old blog, it were not translated into the new blog.
I cannot find solution from googling on this topic. If you know and have tips on photo/graphics import export le me know

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

Can you give me a link to a post or page where the old blog’s URL is being used? We may be able to fix that up for you, but I’m having trouble finding an example of that on the blog.
