import from xanga is stalled
-
My import from Xanga is showing that it’s stalled. I think it’s actually been this way for months (probably since October 2014). I just remembered to check it because I just noticed that I’m missing about 4 months of my old Xanga blog. I had a lot of trouble with the other files as well. (See this conversation – https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/xanga-import-stalled?replies=20#post-2055418) I’m not sure why my imports continue to stall as I’ve been following the instructions to the letter. Thanks for the help!

Hi there!
I’ve just cleared that for you. If you continue to have trouble, can you try using the WordPress importer instead of the Xanga importer?
Unfortunately imports can be a bit finicky, so if there’s a weird character or and unexpected sequence they can stall out. But let me know if you continue to have trouble and I can take a look at the file you’re importing.

Thank you Shawna! Should I just go ahead and use the WordPress importer, instead of the Xanga importer? I’ve been using the Xanga one, assuming that I had to because that’s what the directions said.
Also, is there a way for me to look at a list of the files that have successfully imported? At this point, so many of them have stalled, I don’t know which were successful and which were not. I have 8 total that I need to get installed. Looking at the dates that did get imported, I’m guessing only one file was not successful but I’m not sure which one it was.
Thanks again for the help!

Either way! They’re actually basically the same importer. Sometimes people have luck moving to the WordPress importer instead. :)

There’s not. And our import logs go away pretty quickly, so I can’t check them anymore either. You’ll need to start the import process for your files again. Any posts or content we’ve already imported will not be duplicated through the import process, so the files that successfully imported should run through quickly.
Let me know if I can help with anything else!

Thanks for the advice! I’ll just go ahead and try importing them all again using the WordPress importer and hopefully the missing files will show up. Thanks again for your help!

Of course. Let me know if you have any trouble with that. We just fixed a bug with imports appearing stalled when they had actually completed, so hopefully you won’t have any more trouble there. :)

Hi Shawna! Just wanted to let you know that I re-imported all 8 of my files using the WordPress Import tool as you suggested and they all went through really quickly, with no stalling. And I found the missing file (file #7!). So hooray, my entire old blog is there now. Thanks so much for all your help!
