Import Frozen

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m trying to import information from one wordpress to another since I will not be keeping a personalized domain and it has been frozen for over a day.

    https://danielrhodessimpsonmpa.wordpress.com/

I read through that I should probably upload in smaller chunks, but I need the current import cleared out since it’s frozen.

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi @k4drs,

It doesn’t look like there’s an active import, so it may have already completed. Regardless, I have reset the import state.

If you’re looking to split your XML file into smaller chunks, you can also use a third-party WXR Splitter app: Windows | macOS

    Hope that helps!

Can you check the import status for https://danielrsimpson1985.wordpress.com/?

And are you aware of any reason the option for changing the URL status would not be showing? I made an error earlier and when trying to change the URL back to the original, I don’t even see the option.

    Thanks!

You can follow along the status of your import here:

    https://wordpress.com/import/danielrsimpson1985.wordpress.com

If you have a lot of content or media, it could take some time to complete. Our systems will send you an email when it’s completed. If a day goes by and that status hasn’t updated (currently at 674 posts, pages, and media files left to import), please post back here and we can look into this for you.

And are you aware of any reason the option for changing the URL status would not be showing? I made an error earlier and when trying to change the URL back to the original, I don’t even see the option.

Can you let us know what your URL was previously and what you changed it to? Once we have that information, we’ll be better able to advise.

    Thanks!

It was danielrsimpson.net and I changed it to use the url https://danielrhodessimpsonmpa.wordpress.com/.

I would prefer just to get everything back to how it was before I made the changes this morning but I do not know if that is possible.

I posted from the wrong account by am an admin for the sites as well.

Thanks for that information – that seems to be a completely different site.

Additionally, the domain danielrsimpson.net is using Siteground nameservers, registered at GoDaddy. It also appears that you set up a domain redirect at either Siteground or GoDaddy sending any traffic from danielrsimpson.net to danielrhodessimpsonmpa.wordpress.com.

Since the domain is not hosted here, there’s not much we can do to help with that here. Likely you’ll need to remove that redirect if you want that Siteground hosted site to be accessible again.

NOTE: If that is also the site you’re trying to import from, that redirect will break the import process since it’ll be looking for files under danielrhodessimpsonmpa.wordpress.com to import.

Can you let us know what you’re end goal is here? Are you trying to discontinue using that domain and transferring your site here to use a free WordPres.com domain – or something else? Once we have that information, we’ll be better able to advise.

    Thanks!

The site was on siteground but also was listed under the wordpress site. I guess the wordpress site redirected to the danielrsimpson.net? I tried to change the redirect but everything disappeared that was on the wordpress.

I’m trying to get it moved fully to wordpress. This was my husband’s site and he passed away. I’m just trying to save everything without having to worry about keeping a domain. Not sure if any of that helps.

  • Hi there,

I’m sorry to hear about your husband. It’s great that you want to preserve his legacy in this way, and WordPress.com is ideal for something like this, as you can keep the site hosted on our free plan indefinitely, meaning the content will always remain online.

The site was on siteground but also was listed under the wordpress site. I guess the wordpress site redirected to the danielrsimpson.net? I tried to change the redirect but everything disappeared that was on the wordpress.

Here’s how things are currently set up:

danielrsimpson.net is listed in your WordPress.com account because you have it connected here using the Jetpack plugin. That allows you to manage certain aspects of the site from your WordPress.com account.

But that site is built using the open source WordPress.org software, and is hosted on Siteground’s servers. It’s a completely different site from danielrhodessimpsonmpa.wordpress.com, and there’s no connection at all between these sites on our end – danielrsimpson.net is loading the site at danielrhodessimpsonmpa.wordpress.com because you have a 301 redirect set up on the domain at Siteground that sends its traffic to the WordPress.com site instead.

I’m trying to get it moved fully to wordpress.

Is the content at https://danielrsimpson1985.wordpress.com/ the content you’re looking for? That’s the site you did the import to yesterday.

If there’s still content missing from that site, or you want to import to danielrhodessimpsonmpa.wordpress.com instead, you need to do the following:

    1) Remove the domain redirect you have set up on Siteground’s end so the original site at danielrsimpson.net is accessible again. Siteground support can help you to get your site on their end loading at the domain again.

    2) Re-run the import on our end, on the correct site.

Step 1 is important, because media files won’t import if the Siteground site isn’t accessible.

Let us know once you’ve completed this, and we can chat about what you want to with your domain.
