Import not working?

I’m trying to move some posts from one WordPress blog to another WordPress blog. I’ve followed all the instructions . . . export blog (all posts, all authors, etc.), save XML file, go to other blog dashboard, import, etc. But I keep getting an error:
Invalid file
Please upload a valid WXR (WordPress eXtended RSS) export file.I’ve been able to always do this before. What’s happening now?

Hello again,
Of late there have been some issues with exporting/importing but they were different than what you are reporting. Did you open the export file after is was created but prior to importing it? If you opened it in any program that was not plain text you could have corrupted it. If that’s the case then you could create another export file and do not open it prior to importing it into the second blog. If that does not work you will have to ask for Staff help. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ -
The first version I saved I did try to open in another program. However, I deleted that file and tried again with another newly saved file and received the same message.

I just wondered if you got an answer? I’m having exactly the same problems. I’ve gone back and tried to import earlier versions as well, but the same thing happens.

I’m having the same problem as vanjoygree. On 4/26/2011 I created expat2phils.wordpress.com, and was able to successfully import the wordpress xml file from my old blog on expat2phils.com (domain now expired). Yesterday I created samarexpat2phils.wordpress.com, and attempted to import my wordpress xml file for that blog. I received the same error as vanjoygree:
Invalid file
Please upload a valid WXR (WordPress eXtended RSS) export file.I next attempted to import an older export file to samarexpat2phils.wordpress.com, and got the same error.
This made me think that maybe the samarexpat2phils.wordpress.com blog was corrupted, so I created a temp blog at expat2phils.wordpress.com, and had the same problems.
I also attempted to import the wordpress xml file that was successfully imported to expat2phils.wordpress.com only a few days ago. That file, which I know is good, is now giving me the dreaded invalid file error.
How many others are having this same problem?

correction on my last post. the temp blog name is expat2philstemp.wordpress.com.

We Volunteers can only search forum threads just as members can. We have no access to Staff’s support tickets, there are multiple wordpress.com forums for other languages, and some members do not post to the forums at all they go directly to Staff. Thanks for your quick reply.I have already sent this to support as well. However, since this is my first time using the free blog hosting service on wordpress.com, I’m not sure how long it will take to get a response. On some free services, like google’s blogger, you get quicker response from the forums.
I’m also adding this to the forum to let others, like vanjoygree and puppiesforsaleuk know that they are not alone. And, to show what steps I have taken, which adds to the knowledge of the problem, and demonstrates that it is not just a case of uploading corrupted files.

I can’t help with support time responses, this is my first problem in two months. If it’s any help, I contacted them 6 hours ago and still nothing, although I found an old forum post that suggested weekends suffered from lower staffing levels and a weekday response was more likely!
Stupidly, I deleted the original posts so I didn’t get duplicates! So, I’m just trying every 15-30 minutes to import.
Will let you know if anything changes.

Update. It looks like this issue is now under review by staff. I found another thread that just started here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/import-fails-invalid-wxr-file?replies=1#post-597436. Keep an eye on that one too, for updates.

@expat2phils: “Under review by staff – Please come back soon” simply means that it’s been less than 30 minutes that the thread has been created and that until then, only staff can respond to it.
By the time I finished typing this, it’s been 30 minutes and the message is gone.

Thanks. When I first looked at that topic, it was at 27 minutes. When I refreshed, 3 minutes later, the “Under review by staff – Please come back soon” was gone. Rather confusing for someone new to this forum. -
hmmmm. more than 9 hours later, 21 hours since I first reported this to support, and still no response. Do they recognize there is a problem? It would be nice to hear something from support. In the words of Aqua, “calling doctor jones … wake up now” ;-)

Hi.. Im trying to import from blogg.se (swedish) to a new blogg on wordpress.com.
I’ve manage to make an export of my old blogg, but I can’t figgur out how to import it, at all… Any ideas?
