Import not working
-
Hello,
I exported my site from test.ericthomas.net as a 196MB .wpress file. When I try to use the Import feature I get an error and am told to contact support.
I also tried to use the Import tool but I see it only allows files up to 15MB. Please advise!
Thank you,

Here is the error:
<html> <head><title>413 Request Entity Too Large</title></head> <body bgcolor=”white”> <center><h1>413 Request Entity Too Large</h1></center> <hr><center>nginx</center> </body> </html>
Try another file or contact support. -
Has 24 hours passed since you tried to import?
Sometimes the importer gets stuck. If the file is large you may have to import Posts, Pages, etc. in separate files. Or if the file is very large Staff may have to do the import.

I appreciate the quick response. Not sure how this site got so BIG! You can see at test.ericthomas.net that its pretty basic.

Hi there,
Did you export that from a self-hosted site? You’ll need to have tens of thousands of posts and/or comments to generate an export file that big.
Is it an .xml file, or a .sql file? If it’s a .sql file, it’s not possible to import that here. You can only import a .xml file that was exported via Tools ->Export in the WP-Admin dashboard.
If it is a .xml file, you’ll need to use an XML splitter app to break it up into smaller pieces. You can find some info on how to do that here:

Good morning!
All good. Just rebuilt the posts and pages manually. For a small blog with 16 posts and 7 pages, don’t know how on earth the .wpress file got to be 196MB! It did include the db and everything.
No biggie. THanks WP community for the assistance.

It did include the db and everything.
If it included the entire database, then that file size makes sense.
Thanks for letting me know you got it sorted out :)
