Import of images
-
Hi
Im trying to import a blog from another WP-account that is about to shut down.
I have succeeded to import the posts thru a .xls file but the media dont follows.
You can se the pictures but the links are directed to the old server were the other blog is. And under my media files there is none.I guess i have to export/import the media by itself?
Can you please tell me how to solve this?
Tnx

Hi, Chris.
Were you importing from one WordPress.com site to another, or from a site hosted elsewhere?
Here’s a pretty good discussion of how the export/import process works if they’re both WordPress.com sites.

If that’s not the case, you may have to upload the images manually and replace them in the HTML for each post.
Hit me back with more details if you still need help.

Ok I’ll check the link and see what I find.
I think that it’s a WordPress.com but I’m not sure. How can one tell?It is not me who started the blog. It is a company that I been working/blogging for a couple of years. And now they want me to stop because they have a new owner. Any how. It is on their server and Webb address. And that’s were I log on also.
Thanks for the help.

If the site is on WordPress.com, and you scroll all the way down to the bottom, you’ll see something like “Blog at WordPress.com” and a note about the theme in the footer. If you’re logged in to the site, you’ll also see a bar at the top of the page that says “My Sites” in the upper left.
On self-hosted WordPress sites, any reference in the footer will link to WordPress.org. The admin bar at the top may also have a “W” logo in the upper left when you’re logged in, but the dropdown menu there will link to .org. If it’s an older version of WordPress, it may just have links to admin for the site itself.
If you care to post the URL in a reply, I’d be happy to take a look.

Hi, again.
The new blog is definitely on WordPress.com. The old one is on Ascio.
So, here’s the comprehensive guide on how to move from the old to the new, though you’ve already done that, except for the media files.

Depending on the version of WordPress running on the old site, you might be able to do another export of just the media, and then import it to the new site. Otherwise, you may have to update each post manually with the images.
The new site looks great with the Cubic Theme, by the way.

Beauty!
Please let me know if I can help.
By the way, if you do ever need to post a screenshot here, a lot of us use services like Cloudup. You post it there, and then paste the link here.
